I am a high school sophmore
ranked 1/212
SAT: Verbal: 760 Math: 740 Writing: 760
combined: 2260 (I took them in october for the first time b/c my friend said i should. he thought i'd do really well)
I want to take them again next year when I', a junior to improve them. I would like to bring my math up to a 760 at least.
I have sveral solid EC's: Junior Classical League (Latin Club), I'm the secratary of Latin Club, Treasure of Rocket Club, a memeber of Key Club, memebr of Students for Students, and in the lATIN cLUB National Honor Society
I also volunteer in my community as a member of the planning committee for Relay For Life. I am also a Relay for Life team captain, and i volunteer at Youth Court of Hefferson County

I know my SAT's need some work, and I'm sure I can improve them next year. In june I'm taking the SAT 2 for Biology or Chemistry and World History

And I don't want to go to Harvard because its an Ivy School. I know that the Ivy league is just a sports league. I like Harvard because it offers such a wide rancge of not only academics but student groups/clubs. Also I think the campus and Cambridge are beautiful.
I am just wondering if I have a shot of getting into Harvard. Thanks

'you'llsee' i think u need to get the hell of the chance threads. you past 15-20 replies to all the chance threads have been 'no'. either you give a substantial reason to the OP or dont post at all.

Currently, you're SAT score is very good for a sophomore, but your extracirriculars are not outstanding. You need to do something that is unique, not just school clubs. There are many applicants who have alot of clubs and organizations, but you want something that gives you luster, something almost no one else does, something you have a strong passion in. Express this in your essays also.

With more than a year left, I think you have a good shot! But do remember, just scores and clubs and community service won't get you in. You need passion and something special. (an a good personality that will make you fit well at Harvard; try to get someone to write you a good recommendation that emphasizes how passionate and unique you are, with good social skills)

From what I can tell academically your pretty strong....and btw I dont think you really need to do your SAT again, because your score is already good enough but if your not satisfied with it there's no harm in improvement I suppose...

What I would encourage you to do at this point, especially considering that you have two years, is to really concentrate on trying to differentiate yourself from everyone else. Try doing some independent research if your into that stuff, and then maybe try getting into RSI (very strong hook) or focus on some other activity you enjoy and realy follow through with it...

I would advise you to stop 'chancing' yourself when you are only a year into high school, and focus instead on doing a few things you really enjoy along with building a strong academic profile... almost no one looks like compelling at this point, it's all about what you do with your next 2 years.

I would recommend more leadership positions.. also to clarify regarding ecs.. they are "bland" because you don't show passion for one or two things... best of luck :]
