You have a great shot. Apply and see what happens. You are qualified, but not everyone can get in. Good luck.
With your scores and GPA, you are clearly smart enough to understand the numbers. You are a competitive applicant, but so are most applicants. They turn away some people with better stats, but also accept some people whose stats are not as good as yours.
What is the volunteer activity at your church - an altar boy might get 100 hours simply by showing up, but someone who set up the bingo tables every other Tuesday, then bakes cookies for the bake sale, or who publishes the parish newsletter, or organizes donations and ticket sales and sets the volunteer schedules for the monthly Pancake Breakfasts, would tell a different story and different level of commitment.
I don’t mean to minimize your accomplishments - and I applaud you for them. If you don’t get into Williams, you will do well wherever you end up.
Best of luck
Williams superscores. Is your SAT score from a single-sitting?
thank you so much for thr replies so far!
ECs seem weak for Williams to me. Don’t think church being your main EC will help.
What is your unweighted GPA? Where is your high school (state and region)? I’m assuming it is public. Are you a boy or girl?
it is a single sitting. the first time i took the SAT it was the old SAT out of 2400 and then my best (& most recent) score was from the new SAT. Since they won’t superscore the two tests together, I only included the one
I do different things at my church, the main one being teaching religious education, which I also emphasize in my essay. I also work at church events like craft fairs & carnivals which is definitely less impressive but I’m hoping my teaching experience will be a good addition to my application
I do not know my exact unweighted GPA but I am an A/A- average student. My school is in Connecticut and I’m a female
Also I wanted to mention I plan on majoring in math. Do you think this would give me any extra boost considering the small amount of math majors at liberal arts colleges? My counselor emphasized the fact that I’m not your typical math student in my recommendation (because I’m creative, social, etc)
Math is a popular major at Williams. That’s what I was told on the tour. 12% of the class in 2014.
About 10% are math majors. Not sure if that would be considered popular or not
Your 800 and intent to major in math are positives. The problem for you @curious145 is that you are an unhooked girl applying to a (smaller) LAC from the East Coast. Williams supposedly uses ED to take athletes but I have no personal knowledge of that. I wouldn’t be surprised if Williams defers on you until RD. Don’t give up hope. Good luck!
Of course you have a chance! Your scores and GPA are excellent and I think you know that - now is the time to focus on subjective elements such as essays. Don’t be too nervous (I know it’s hard, but if anyone has a chance, you do!)
