Do I have a chance of ever becoming a Marshall student?

I have never attended High School as I was abused (psychologically and verbally) as a child which caused severe anxiety. I dropped out of the 8th Grade but have recently gotten my HSE with amazing scores in every subject.

I have been admitted to Santa Monica College for the Fall 2019 semester and I’m extremely excited as this gives me another chance at my education. If I have a great GPA, great ACT score, and great EC’s, would I still have a chance getting in to USC Marshall?

I plan to transfer with 30+ units and I was wondering in my situation if I should take the ACT and SAT or just the ACT.

From what I understand, if you transfer with 30+ units, USC does not care about your high school grades and I’m pretty sure the SAT won’t mean much unless you took it and got an insane score. They will almost only be looking at what you do at Santa Monica College and the activities you do while there. However, you will need more than a great GPA and activities. You will need good essays and good letters of rec and then you might have a chance at being considered. This goes for everyone, there are no for sure signs of getting in.

You shouldn’t need to take either of those if transferring with 30 or more. But because your situation is unique, I would make contact with your transfer advisor and ask this question, providing the information you did here. You should verify important issues with them when answers are not clear on the website or the transfer guide. It is a legit question and it gives you a reason to establish a relationship with them. That can be a good relationship to have. You should be able to find your advisor on the website. If not, give admissions a call, they are there to help. Sorry to hear about the rough go you had but congrats for getting back on track, best to you going forward.
