This is my college essay, which basically asks why I want to go to mud at this point in my life and it had to be less than 300 words.
There are many different reasons as to why I am brought to the University of Maryland at this point in my life. As a prospective Computer Science major, Maryland’s academic prestige is a huge factor in my decision. Maryland offers so many resources and frankly will offer me the best chance to achieve my goals academically and professionally. I am drawn to this university for many reasons, not just academically. Ever since I visited the campus, I fell in love with everything it has to offer. From an inviting atmosphere, to the big school feel, and the plethora of opportunities Maryland offers to get involved on campus. Maryland offers me the best chance to grow academically and as an individual which is exactly what I am looking for in a university.
Maryland has always been my number one choice but I felt as if I was not prepared straight out of high school. Although my academic performance was not top notch in high school, I took challenging courses consisting of mostly honors and an Advanced Placement course. I decided it would be in my best interest to attend Montgomery College for a couple semesters so the transition to college would be as smooth as possible. This year at Montgomery College has aided me tremendously. It has helped me improve as a writer, become more proficient in mathematics as well as science and abetted me in polishing my reading comprehension skills. As compared to my high school self, I have matured greatly. I consider myself more goal-oriented and I am very meticulous with my studies. My improvements as a student is what leads me to this transfer application. I feel that I am now prepared to be a terrapin and to move forward with my academic pursuits and career.
Looks like you at the average. https://www.admissions.umd.edu/advisors/TransferStudentProfile.php. I think your high school stats might hurt you, since you have less than 30 credits. They will factor in your GPA and SAT score. https://www.admissions.umd.edu/requirements/TransferStudents.php. Good luck!
I see, I honestly didn’t try in high school or the sat, however I changed that in college. I honestly don’t know how this will work for me because Im told that UMD only checks high school grades for improvement, but in my case there probably was ‘too much’ improvement
Hopefully you make it in. I’m rooting for you.
Thank you!, Im already promised admission but its the matter if I am good enough to be reviewed in April or July. I will let everyone know of my decision next week!
I’m in MTAP at MC too. You might have to wait until the end of the semester and send in your final transcript, but you should be guaranteed admission if you end up with a 3.0+.
@brick123zw Oh thats sweet, which campus do you go to, and when do you intend to transfer? I hope that isn’t the case through, I’m a very impatient person and would love my decision right away. I called the admission office and they told me my application has already been “reviewed” so Im assuming next week I will either be accepted or rejected. I can only hope for the best and hope my stats are good enough so far.
Rockville and I submitted my app by the priority deadline too so I’m waiting as well. Since you’re in MTAP I don’t think they can/would reject you.
I’m more concerned about getting housing/dorms than getting admitted.
@brick123zw I feel you on that one, I want to get the best dorms or suites and the best classes so I would rather get my decision like next week than 2-3 months. As an Mtap student, they can’t really reject you, the can either assume your doing well and let you in, under the condition you finish up the 30 credits and send in your transcript, or they put you on hold until you send in your transcript. How many credits do you have so far and your gpa?
I’m a freshmen right now. I took some summer classes and including ap’s I have 30 completed credits and I’m doing 14 more this spring. My GPA’s is 4.0.
@brick123zw ok you definitely got in, I hope my case is the same as well, I’m a freshman too, I’m not an LEP major so I think I should be fine. Anyways thanks for your opinion, good luck and hopefully well run into each somewhere in UMD in the fall.
