welcome to the boards, wackymom!

ethernal,
the reason I asked about the major is because I thought a tech-ish school might be more appealing than a warm-fuzzies LAC. Let me know - I have to do something this minute but I will do a search for you this pm.

Wackymother: That looks like an interesting choice. If they really do look for high test scores, then it could certainly be possible.. and I have a bunch of friends that are going to NYU, so that could end up working out nicely. My father is a New Jersey native and went to Rutgers as well - although he dropped out after his third year, so I hope they don't check up on the family history. :)

Buffithemaster: Wow.. that's very interesting. So they wouldn't even look at my disciplinary records or anything before accepting me if I sent them my NMS semi-finalist status? I have a friend in Orlando that went to UCF, I'll have to talk to him about his experiences there.

Ohio Mom: I don't think I would fit in well at a Liberal Arts college.. I am a terrible writer and usually find it extremely difficult to express my ideas and beliefs. Back when I was in elementary school, when I was still young enough to have silly and unrealistic dreams, I wanted to go to MIT. I realize that's a bit uh, out of my leauge now, but I would prefer to go to a more tech-oriented college, if that helps.

Thank you again for your feedback.

yeah...here is the page for the honors college...

http://www.honors.ucf.edu/TBHC_admissions_freshmen.html

Students who have received the following distinctions will be immediately accepted to The Burnett Honors College, provided that they submit a complete application:

National Merit Scholarship Finalist or Semifinalist
National Achievement Finalist or Semifinalist
National Hispanic Scholarship Finalist or Semifinalist

They will ultimately look at your transcript (I suppose just as a formality), but I got my offer of admission prior to mailing my transcript. Also, the honors college is a guaranteed admit for commended students from the Orlando metro area.

I wish we were doing this last weekend so we would have the Feb. 1 schools. Ah, well. Here are some others to look at that have not yet passed their dates:

http://www.clarkson.edu - March 15th (Clarkson University in New York - will look past grades at the person)
http://www.gannon.edu - Rolling (in Erie, PA. One of my son's friends is doing engineering there and likes it a lot).
http://www.rit.edu - Rolling (this is reachy because of your grades BUT I know of kids with high stats/crappy GPA that have been admitted. Again, a friend of my son attends and likes it).
http://www.rose-hulman.edu - March 1st - this is a crapshoot for you, but you may as well have one on your list. Very cool place.

if you want to do engineering, i would def apply to rose hulman.

also, i agree with whoever mentioned Rutgers, very good school.
