Do I have any chance of getting into a selective college?

I’m a junior. I have a 3.9 unweighted gpa, 11 APs (all 5s), good extracurriculars, some awards. I’ve gotten straight A’s except in 10th grade, where in the first semester I got an F. I had just switched from homeschool to online public school and struggled with that, plus I got behind due to medical issues.

I know selective colleges aren’t a guarantee for anyone, but are my chances totally ruined?

Sorry I don’t know if you can edit posts but I forgot to say I also got a 2400 on the SAT.

I’m no expert, but you seem like a well qualified applicant. It appears that you have a fairly good reason as to why the grade was so poor and it was 10th grade, not this year or next. It definitely won’t help your chances, but otherwise if you keep up the grades for junior and senior year, continue with the ECs and write great essays, I’d say you have a shot. HYPS are reaches for everyone, but top 20s are within your reach. My 0.02…

Does it make it better if one of the AP exams was the quarter after that course in the same subject?

I would love to go to Princeton but I know that’s a reach for anyone, let alone someone with an f.

Thanks for your input.

I believe your have a legitimate admissions opportunity for all of the most-selective undergraduate institutions (however, as you’re aware, they are all ultra-competitive).

You seem well-qualified and should definitely apply. Just make sure you have a safety or two as well.

You got a 2400?, a 3.9 and 11 AP’s? I think you have this covered. Selective colleges will be a match, ivy are a crapshoot for everyone.

I dunno, I just got really stressed out thinking about this because I’ve seen lots of people talk about how there are applicants with perfect gpa’s who will get chosen over me. I’m not really shooting for an Ivy unless it’s Princeton, but I am looking at top schools. Thanks everyone
