I am currently in college and was hoping to transfer somewhere else, my list includes UChicago, Cornell, Vanderbilt, UPenn, or Northwestern.
I am mostly worried about my EC’s as my college GPA after 4 semesters (3.7) and Test Scores (2080 SAT 34 ACT) are decent; but my EC’s are average at best.
-Altar boy for 8+ years leading group of boys at my church and our youth group
- Recently have started competitive Powerlifter
- Competitive Gamer for 3 years , (Have won many tournaments, i record gameplay and upload to youtube for people to watch and was ranked in top .01% percent of players online
-Also a decent programmer for a couple of personal projects
-Have volunteered several hundred of hours at a local foodbank and old age home
Are any of these good EC’s especially my gaming one as it is one I put a lot of time into?
Gaming is odd…but the volunteer service is great. What are your powerlifting lifts?
I can do 2.5 times my body weight for deadlift and squats, but sadly only 190 for Bench… I am practicing…I weigh in at 165
Your youth and volunteer things are really good. The gamer things really cool but I’m not sure how much colleges will care unless it somehow connects to your major in a unique way. I know schools, particularly NU (which is what I know most about) usually like lots of diversity or a showcasing of a very specific talent with ECs. Unless you can somehow showcase how the gamer thing factors in a interesting way for essays some schools might look at your ECs and say you haven’t done much. UChicago loves off the wall standout essays if you can somehow fashion your gaming experiences into some orginal form of writing. You have good grades and test scores so really your only barrier for most of these schools is spinning your ECs the best way possible in your essays to portray you in the best light possible. Good luck!
