Do I have even a tiny chance of NMF?

Hey all,
I got a 222 on my PSATs and I assume this will be good enough for NMSF in Virginia.
Anyone know if it's even possible for me to advance to NMF with a 3.1 (weighted, 3.05 UW)?
My grades have been steadily increasing (2.6 freshman year, 3.5 sophomore, should be 4.0 this year) and I just want to know if there is even a faint possibility of getting NMF with a fairly abysmal GPA, assuming I write my essay on all that "I had an epiphany about how much my GPA matters" crap.

I think you have a chance since 15000/16000 or so go on to finalists

I actually dont even see whats so great about NMF...

From the sites Ive seen, NMSF is good enough to get a full ride to instate school and since NMF comes out in April Senior Year, no colleges will be able to see that.

Is there something im missing?

Besides the fact that several of the colleges I'm applying to offer significant scholarships for it and that my dad's company will give me $8,000 for it, um... no. Nothing good about it, never mind.

^Umm Im pretty sure thats for NMSF (for colleges)...
Or maybe your state is different...but I know my state our instate colleges give you full ride just based on NMSF...and 2000 dollars for any college in general (thats a guarentee for NMSF)

I never heard to scholarships for NMF
dont know about your dads company though

and besides yea like 94 percent get to become NMF, as long you ahve ECs and good essay to boost up that low GPA you should be NMF (and dont get suspended or arrested...)
hey sorry if i sounded a little blunt on that first post...

Hipeople - I would be interested to know which schools you are talking about. I don't know of *any * schools, State or otherwise, that offer much in the way of scholarships to semi finalists. I do know of several that offer full, or close to full, ride scholarships to finalists. At my daughter's school, for instance, finalists get a full ride, semi finalists get $2,500. You find out if you are a finalist a lot earlier than April. The NM $2,000 scholarship is not automatic for all finalists - it is only awarded to about 2500 finalists.

knickerbocker - your GPA may possibly knock you out of contention. My daughter has a friend who did not make it to finalist because of her GPA which was probably a little higher than yours. The upward trend may help. All you can do is do your best to get really good grades this year. Good luck.

I should be able to get it up to 3.37 by the end of this year- 3.5 at least by the end of senior year, but no one cares about that.
Out of curiosity, do you know what your daughter's friend's GPA was, exactly?

anyone know?

wondering the same my gpa is not stellar (20th percentile ish in my class) but I got a 225, have good ECs and can write a decent essay.

That is stellar, jackass.
I wish all you melodramatic whiners would realize that the gpa you have is fine for almost every college. Having a gpa in the bottom third percentile isn't, so stop pretending you're out of luck.

Um...? My class is stupid. My gpa is about the same as yours.

I see only one melodramatic whiner in this thread.

Jackass.

cougheasytrollbaithack
You should make that clear in the future. You made it sound like that jerk who was saying "chance a mess" only his gpa was 4.2, his SATS were 2300+ and he was nationally-ranked at some EC. Just came off as a snotty rich kid was all.
