If Duke contacted you for an alumni interview, do you absolutely have to? Does it become part of your admissions criteria?

You probably should. It gives you a chance to bring something across that you can't in the app, unless you interview badly. I got contacted wednesday and I'm going through with it.

I was contacted this morning and am going through with it also, if I can get in touch with my alumnus--I was out when she called my house, and when I called back I got her answering machine.

I don't see how it could hurt if you're polite. If it's not going to hurt and Duke is high on your list, why not?

Yeah, I 'm doing it. i'm excited!

I don't think I would have gotten accepted had I not interviewed.

You should have a good reason to turn it down, if you do. Why would you turn it down anyway? It most definitely is part of the admissions criteria.

However, if you have some really good reason not to do it, make sure to tell your interviewer that, in a timely fashion (ASAP). Some people just don't respond...that's rude and it makes them look immature. The admissions committee will find out if you turned down an interview, and they will also find out whether you communicated with your interviewer or just didn't respond.

sorry I asked in a few other threads..but would it look bad if I requested an interview if I turned n Form A after Dec10..it says specifically on the form IF you have turned in form A by Dec 10..then use this form..so would it just look like I cant read directions..or is that like a guideline that if its after dec10, nothing is for sure?

You can't request one now. It's up to the committee to assign you one.

Yeah you can..there is a button on the site that works..but what I am asking is would it be looked down on?

Well if there's a button then of course not

where is this button you speak of?

My daughter, now a Duke freshman, was admitted without an interview last spring. She tried to get one, but was not able to. But if she had been contacted for an interview and turned it down, I think that would have been a different story.

DukeBlueDevils- Admissions Interview Request

However,
1) The form is from 06-07
2) It's probably unnecessary. If there's an alum in your area, (s)he will contact you.

I missed the intreview request deadline but I still got an interview. I just had my interview on Tuesday.. basically, they just write a short little evaluation. It's not particularly important, but if contacted, you should take it unless you are an extremely antisocial person (I know a guy who behaves very oddly although he's intelligent and he's skipping his interviews because he generally gives off a very poor first impression). Some colleges will ask interviewers to mark down if you rejected an interview and possibly record the reason. It is unlikely to hurt you.. but.. better safe than sorry.

definitely definitely go through w/ the intervieww! i personally was NOT looking forward to being interviewed because interviews kind of make me nervous but surprisingly it was VERY enjoyable for me! the alum was really nice and friendly and he told me right from the start that the interview does not count for much for the app process. it was more for my benefit than his.. i found that i liked duke even more after my interview =)

If you were contacted for an alumni interview, you probably should.
I personally enjoyed my Duke interview, I never felt nervous at all for mine.
Assuming you are a nice and friendly person, it should go well on your part.

wow, mine was really enjoyable and fun.

some of us are begging Duke for an interview... you better take it!

i still haven't had mine and i filled out an interview request...should i be worried? i also turned my app in by the 12/10 deadline.
