Do I have to retake the SAT?

In January, I got 2020 (reading 660, math 800, writing 560)

and in June, I got 2110 (reading 750, math 740, writing 620)

so my combined score is 2170...

as you see my writing score sucks..

I am an international student, and I'm applying to Middlebury for early decision.

I'm applying for financial aid, too..

do you think I should retake it? I really want to get in....

but, tell you the truth, my GPA is pretty low.. other subjects are OK..but my math grades suck!! it's not that I did not try..math in this school is really tough.. I've seen plenty of kids who got C and D at my school even when they attended all the classes and behaved well in the class..(in this school, attendace and behavior not counted in your grade..)

I think the writing section is much less emphasized, maybe to the point of an SAT subject test. Otherwise, you are within 50 points of a perfect score and would not re-take, but focus on other elements of your application.

ED and financial aid = bad idea. Best to apply regular to a bunch of colleges and compare offers.

It takes a lot more than just a good SAT to get into a school like Middlebury, particularly now when there are more applicants than ever. I know someone who had a 2300 last year, went to a very good high school, was a National Merit Finalist and had a 3.85 GPA and didn't get in.

If you really like Middlebury go ahead and apply, just don't count on getting in.

I got a friend who got into Middlebury ED with lower SAT than tidjj2..So give it a try ah:)..

My scores were better, my GPA was much better, I was not applying for financial aid and I had fantastic essays (with a perfect writing score). That said, I applied ED, got deferred, got waitlisted and still didn't get in. Middlebury is all about writing. They emphasize it during the tour, in their materials, and in all the research books. If your writing skills are not excellent, I would not put much stock in admission. Then again, I believe that admissions is a total crap shoot so why not try! Middlebury had so many applicants last year, they never went to the waitlist...or so my letter said. Good luck.

The truth is your chances of getting in are better if you are male. If you're female you need better everything.

Because more females apply,

middlebury stopped considering sats this year no?

anyway writing score doesnt really count unless u got like. a 2 on ur essay

focus more on other parts of ur app

good luck

Middlebury has a big focus on writing though, as Ginger pointed out. Midd requires you to send in a graded essay from high school too. I would apply, but don't put all your eggs in one basket.

You don't even have to send in SAT scores--just test scores from three different areas, or with 3 different sections (i.e. 3 SAT IIs, 3 APs, combo of SAT IIs and APs, ACT, or SAT I). So, you question may be a moot point!

how would three SAT subject tests compare to THE SAT? like i have a 740 lit, 800 US history, and a 600 in math (ok so i'm taking BIO with the hopes of this going up). would that be comparable to a: 2140 (or higher with bio)?
