When it says that the school only requires a counselor letter of rec, but “is happy to review” other recs, will it lower my chances of admission if i simply just submit a letter of rec from my counselor?

No, they mean what they say. What that tells you is they know that all the recs they see are great because what student would ask for a rec from a teacher that is going to say bad things about them? So they do the polite thing and tell you they will look at recs you send in, but of course they will be wonderful so what’s the point? They look more at your stats, your EC’s and the trend over the 3 years of school. Many of these schools really look at how much you have challenged yourself with Honors courses, AP’s and even local college courses perhaps, but especially the first two.

You might get a quick answer, although it would take you all of 15 minutes to find it out yourself by looking at the college websites, but you would have no way of knowing if it’s correct. Is it so hard to understand that you should go to the original source so that you can be sure the information is up to date and correct rather than asking a bunch of people on an internet discussion board, who while (hopefully) well intended, could be misinformed or out of date? While CC is great for many things, for straight forward admissions information (eg. deadlines, number of LORs, essay prompts, etc.), you go to the source.
