I am going to be a senior and I got my results back today from my June SAT, and I didn’t do as well as I had hoped. In March I got a 1450 - 760 math, 690 English. This time I got a 1440 - 760 math, 680 English. (The curve was terrible because I actually got more questions correct this time. I’m not blaming the curve though. It’s besides the point anyways.) After converting it to the old one, which all the data is currently based off of, it ends up around 1400.
I don’t think that it’ll actually increase my chance chance of admission because I’m 75% sure I’ll get in with this and my GPA and extra curriculars. The only reason I might retake would be for a greater chance at getting into Clark or getting a scholarship. I know that there isn’t a hard rule for a score for either of these, but I know that increasing it could help.
There are a lot of things in play here. Retaking it doesn’t mean that I’ll get a better score, even if I study. Even if I do get a better score, it does not guarantee me a scholarship or admission. My current scores might even get me in.
I’m just wondering what you all would do. I’m slightly leaning towards taking it again because I don’t think it could hurt, but it is a lot of extra work and stress right at the beginning of senior. I’m definitely not totally sure either way. Thanks!
You have a good grasp of the pros and cons of retaking the test. It is hard to know what scores admissions will be looking for without admitted student data with the new test. If you think you will second guess yourself forever, retake it, but work on improving your math score for a better chance at getting into Clark. Keep in mind they will see that you took it 3 times. Have you considered taking the ACT instead? It could give you the scores you are looking for. Remember to check your test dates and make sure scores will be in for the Priority deadline-usually Nov 1. Get as much as you can done this summer with applications, essays, counselor forms, and references. It will make your senior year easier. Good luck!
@phs2017 - The following question and answer is from the UMD Freshman Application website (link below). Lots of kids take the SAT 3 times

Q: Will Maryland superscore my standardized test scores?
Yes, we superscore both the SAT and ACT. We use the highest subscores from the SAT and ACT in our review of your application, so it is to your benefit to submit all of your test scores. Please note that we will accept scores from the redesigned SAT, first administered in March 2016, but these scores will not be combined with scores from the old SAT
