Would it be wise to send in an additional arts supplement of my piano playing? For example...Chopin's op.28 no. 16?

Thank you for taking the time to read over my stats. Please reply, and I will greatly appreciate it.

I'm sorry, I meant a "6" in SL english.

Where are you applying?

HYPSM i will be applying to

yeah your SATs are top of the line, grades are good too, ECs are pretty good. you have a better chance than the average HYPSM applicant, but hopefully you're applying to more schools :)

Trying to predict acceptances at HYPSM is like trying to predict tomorrow's weather from the middle of a field. You have strong chances, but you never really know what's going to happen.

wow, your ib scores are amazing.

they're predicted

are those sat scores predicteD?

ib scores= predicted
sat scores= achieved

bump :).......................

You are as good a candidate as many of the top students who apply each year. But HYPSM rejects 90% of applicants each year, including 50% of students who score 2400 on the SAT's. I hope you will also apply to some safeties as well or you might end up with no acceptances come April. Search CC for the thread "picking up the pieces" by Andi, for a sobering look at what can happen, and specific pointers about what to avoid doing on your college applications. And yes, I would send in a recording of your piano performance.

thank you =)

good luck!

As a fellow Canadian who applied a few years ago with the same M/V SAT as you...

No, I don't think it's worth your time sending a recording of your piano performance unless you've won an award with it at a provincial competition at least (think Kiwanis). You're only in grade 8 RCM, when there are literally dozens of applicants from Canada who have completed Grade 10 or ARCT in Grade 12 already. The one from Nova Scotia who was admitted 3 years ago to Harvard with piano as his primary extracurricular went to Poland to compete in the International Chopin Competition. If you still want, feel free to do so, but I think the impact will be limited.

In terms of academic awards and competitions, it's not that impressive unless you're from a rural area such as Nova Scotia or Saskatchewan. If you're in Ontario, again they pale in comparison to other applicants. Your raw stats in terms of GPA and academics might carry you on this point if your school hasn't offered such opportunities. Good luck.

i agree with the poster above. i'm canadian. of the three students from my school who went to american schools in my year, all of us had completed grade 10 or above and won regional awards. so it seems fairly common. unless you are absolutely wordclass, i don't think sending in a recording will help.

do you have british citizenship or canadian?

i have both citizenships

And did you manage to get into HYP?

i don't know if that question was for me, but no i didn't apply for HYP. My friend did end up at Harvard, but she was recruited for the track team, not because she played piano.

bumpp..........
