do ivys like autistic students?

Currently a junior in high school as I start to get more in depth with my college search. I’ve been suffering from Asperger’s my whole life and was wondering if that would help or hurt my applications next year? I was planning on writing an essay about it but I’m unsure. I’ve also asked recruiters that come to my school and they always answered that it wouldn’t affect at all but they’d be interested in knowing more (at least Vanderbilt said that). My dream school is Dartmouth

I think writing about how you have been successful at school and life, despite being on the spectrum, could be interesting. Talk to your college counsellor and see what they think.

It isn’t likely to be very useful for getting into tippy top schools, unless you’ve been smashingly successful in life in spite of it (or maybe partially because of it). If you have tippy top grades, test scores, great ECs, and excellent recommendations, then I think it might be interesting to talk about how it impacted you and how you succeeded. If not, it isn’t probably helpful to your application.

As you can tell, I go to Dartmouth. I have an autistic friend who is one of the most eloquent writers and public speakers I know, but he is also extremely quirky. I think that having autism/Asperger’s won’t harm your application. I don’t know how strong an applicant you are as you have given no other information, but I’d love to help you further if you have any questions. Good luck

I didn’t mention it as I was afraid it would hurt my chances. Just my opinion on the matter but they can’t advertise autism in brochures so they don’t really view it as a positive ever.

KeggyGreen like your friend, I am also a great writer and public speaker. I thought that the Ivies were all about diversity so I thought if I mentioned that I’m autistic that it would help
