Do (most) colleges consider AP Statistics as a math class ?

I’m currently a sophomore in high school and I’m debating whether I should take AP Calc BC or AP Stats my senior year.
The reason why is because the AP Calc BC is known to “not be so great” and I don’t want to jeopardize my GPA. Also, senioritis will definitely get to me

thanks !

Did you already take AP Calc AB or another calculus? Of course AP Stats is math. If you didn’t take AB, I would consider that. If you did, take Stats. The standard is four years of math unless you are looking at selective Engineering/STEM programs that may have more specific math requirements.

Stats isn’t necessarily a walk in the park.

According to this site, more people do better on Calc BC than Stats

https://www.totalregistration.net/AP-Exam-Registration-Service/2016-AP-Exam-Score-Distributions.php

Only 18% of students got a 1 or 2 on the Calc BC test. The rest got 3, 4 and 5.

Almost 40% of AP Stats students got a 1 or 2.

Be careful of not jumping from the frying pan into the fire:)

My personal feeling is that Stats is easier than Calc 2…but that’s subjective, and so much depends on your teacher.

My best advice is this: Ask the teachers of both classes to show you their success stats. What percentage of the kids they teach get 5, 4, 3, 2, 1’s They should have this information and be willing to share it with you.

I would go with the class that is correlated to the best test score outcomes. So much depends on the teacher. If he/she had good results in the past, chances are they will again.

Calc BC has a much easier curve than stats. 70% is a 5 for BC.

While both statements are true, keep in mind that fewer people take the BC exam, and the ones that do tend to be the high-achieving STEM kids.

And yes, colleges consider AP Stats as math.

I’m currently in Acc. Pre-Calculus and next year I’ll be taking AP Calc AB

Yes, taking AP Stats senior year would be totally fine.
