I’m a current sophomore in high school and I’ve been thinking about my extracurriculars recently. COVID definitely does make it harder to go out and carry on with the four-year EC plan I came up with in my freshman year…
Anyways
I’m an avid language learner- I was raised bilingual, am learning French in school, and self-studying another two languages. Since I’m already really interested in language learning, I want to be able to turn that into an extracurricular. However, on other similar forums I’ve read, some claim that being multilingual is not a huge advantage in the college admissions process because of international students, passion is not quantifiable, etc. although it does have some weight. (no hate against international students though ) I plan to take language tests in the three languages that I’m learning, so I will have proof for it.
I also have transcribing/translating experience online (subtitling videos) and, next year, when I have reached a certain level of proficiency in French, I hope to be able to tutor online.
Another one of my interests is tech. I can program in both JS and Python and am a volunteer tutor for younger girls (teaching them how to code).
My question is- do the activities I’m doing indicate my interest for these two (distinct) fields? Also, do you guys have any suggestions as to how I can maybe merge them together? Do you think I have a chance at an “elite” school? Any advice would be much appreciated!
