Do my grades affect college chances

I know that sophomore year is a very important year in high school, and that colleges look at your academics from here on out. I’m not worried about ECs; I’m involved in plenty of those and plan on doing more this summer, plus starting a new job this weekend.

My main concern as of right now are my grades. They aren’t bad, but I feel like they aren’t good enough. I’m very focused about my grades, and if they aren’t perfect I get a little nervous. My classes and grades include:

Honors English 2- 98.40 A+
Honors Chem- 93.21 A
Algebra 2- 93.05 A
Spanish 2- 104.32 A+
AP Human Geography- 86.67 B+
Home Maintenance- 97.48 A+
Geography- 100.00 A+

Last semester, my final grades came out to be all A’s/A+'s

I have this massive fear that some of these grades, such as my chem, math, and AP grades, would show top colleges that I’m not cut out for them when it comes to these areas. I know I’m only a sophomore, but this and next year are big for me. Is anyone else in this situation, where they are worried about their grades?

I don’t understand your concern other than AP Human Geography.

Colleges will consider all four years of your high school career, keeping in mind both the rigor of your schedule and your performance in those classes. Your high school transcript is typically considered the single most important component of your college application.

@hscruiser‌ My main concern is that my grades aren’t high enough in certain classes. I felt that low A’s aren’t good enough for colleges such as Brown or Columbia, considering what I want to go into deals with a lot of math and chemistry.

@tater3399 Understandable. Your grades are evaluated in the context of your school. So think: in Algebra 2, for example, is your 93% one of the very top few grades in the class, or are there several students with higher grades? That’s essentially what colleges like Brown or Columbia are looking for – they’ll just do it with your overall GPA.
