Do ppl bring parents to the orientation?

I'd like to know how the freshman orientation is like. Are they grouped by what dorm they are going to live in (I chose a special interest dorm: asian floor).

Also, do people usually bring their parents along?

ANy other information about the orientation and what it's like would be great.

Most kids bring their parents, but not all. There are separate programs for students and parents, although some some sessions and meals are scheduled together. You have several choices during the orientation, to choose what interests you. Dorm assignments aren't done for awhile, so your groups have nothing to do with housing. You are assigned a student advisor, who will help you with your class schedule, so I think you are grouped more by major, with your advisor being kind of an expert in that field.

I talked to my cousin about his orientation at UCI and he said only about 10% of the kids brought their parents. Is it completely different at UCSB?

Just about everyone brought their parents when I attended orientation.

wow that's odd, my dad said only about 10% of the students brought their parents at my older sister's orientation a few years ago at ucr

Yeah, thats what my cousin said too at UCI
