Do professional schools have access to prior undergrad applications to same institution?

When applying to grad school, is there a possibility the grad school/professional program might have access to a student’s undergrad application? Or is that not done?

Well, I don’t know about professional schools, but graduate students are usually admitted by the Department, not the university. Therev are no “AO’s”/.

I suppose if they really, really wanted to, they could. I also can’t imagine them wanting to. What would be the point?

I agree. My daughter is getting a MA at the same school she received her BA (in history). All the decisions were made by the department (admissions and funding). Since she had a BA from that department, she knew a lot of the professors and worked with one or two on her application to grad school. Her undergrad application was fairly simple; not even sure there were essays for the general app, just for the department (not history as she switched majors while an undergrad) and scholarships, but I don’t think the application committee had any interest in her 17 year old self’s high school grades or ECs or anything else when they had her 4 years of college (and their own grading of her work) to look at.

She did have to submit her grades as part of the application package as one couldn’t expect the college to look in their own records to put those in the application!

They could probably ask/scrounge around and find them if they wanted to. But I can’t imagine why high school grades, SAT scores, and essays from 4+ years ago would be wanted or useful.

I was actually referring more to professional school (ex. med, law, etc). If a student was admitted once but chose not to attend, would that type of info be somehow connected to their name/ID?

My husband was an AO at a university that had a law school. Admissions had one office for undergrad and one for the law school. It actually operated as if it two different schools. Not sure if they would bother trying to track down an undergrad app.

No, they don’t search to see which undergrad schools admitted you. I’m not even sure they’d be allowed to do that if you didn’t give permission.
