I know colleges like high test scores but if you have say in between a 650 or 700 will it hurt your chances at top schools, not Ivies but very well known privates such as Georgetown or Uchicago, northwestern or nyu. From what i've read colleges only use SAT IIs for placement for courses, so are these tests make it or break it or are they just a small part of the equation for the admissions decision? I'm asking this because my friend is freaking out that he will be automatically rejected once they see his low us history and math scores (640 and 680 respectively).

My friend got a 2250 SAT, but had SAT IIs in the 600s, and she got into Brown.

k thats good. bc my sat is really high. like 2200 and my one subject tests.. math one and 2 i got 710 and 790 but bio i have a 650 forst time and 670 second time (dont knwo why). well i mena ive only taken bio honors completely before takin gthe test so i was expecting it. but the thing is im applying bio major for some ivies and other competitive schools. wat are my chances? wil lthey see i took bio as a 10th grader and go t a 650 without ap bio. i mean should i even bother sendingthe 670 one?

I was wondering about this too awhile ago, and I actually thought the SAT II were more important than SAT I (since SAT II are the areas that you're supposed to be strong in)

Yet, you don't hear about the SAT II very often, so I'm not so sure they are as important as SAT I. But by common sense, I think you should aim for an 800 on the subjects you're going to major in. (esp. if that test has a high curve)

shreyamal454- well, you have to send in your score history, so you can't choose which one to send and to leave out... but as far as your bio score, you should retake before you're a senior. If you're actually applying right now, you should retake in January; some schools will accept January scores... I don't think it will hurt you that you took the test w/o AP Bio sophomore year, but if you plan to major in bio, you should at least take the test again after you've taken AP Bio

well all the colleges i applied to def. dont take january scores so i feeelike its pointless now. but i just took the 670 one and i dont have to send it bc i already send a score report about a month ago and was planning on sending the 670 (from december test) only if it was above 700. haha not that lucky. but anyways, so they will only see 650. which i guess im okay with, i mean its def. not great but considering i was only in honors, its okay?

plus im in ap bio right now (senior), so icant take it after ap bio. and im doing great despite it being very difficult because its an online course. i hope they look at that more than the actual bio sat two years ago.

Ohh, I see, then you don't have to send the 670; so no worries :) I think they will understand that you're taking AP Bio right now and aren't ready to take the test until after you're done. I know someone with your situation; he wants to major in physics but he's taking AP physics right now and decided not to take the SAT II in physics. So I don't think you should worry too much. Besides, what I've discovered is that alot of people who get into even top schools like Yale and Stanford have 650 to low 700s on their SAT II... I don't think they're that big of a factor when it comes to admissions unless it's something drastic. Like if you took Chem I, AP Chem, and some other summer chem course and still bombed the chem test...

okay that relieving because i love bio and i honstly feel like the sat subject tests dont show that at all esp. since my school didnt give the opportunity to take ap bio my junior year so i didnt really have a choice. ahh i hate my school haha. thanks for the relief! i can breathe now. bc im applying to hard schools like penn and columbia...good luck to me!

should you only take the SATII in a desired field? cause i see many are taking history ones and see no point in that....

everyone please stop getting relieved by one or two isolated cases, that is just absolutely illogical. whether some kid in iowa got into brown with 600s on her sat ii's has no bearing on the strength of your scores. if they are low, they are low.

Seriously, listen to amber.

And to answer the thread, SAT II's are more important than SAT I's.

Stop pretending that they're not please.

most colleges dont even want sat IIs. so the sat 1 is more important

Just because they don't require them doesn't mean they don't want them.

Like, school don't require you to be an ISEF finalist, but it doesn't mean it's not important. If you are you're guaranteed Harvard.
