Do schools that ask for Pre Screen videos really use them to cut? It seems like if they audition 1000 how many are they cutting?
Should my D expect to not get invited to audition from some of the really competitive schools? So far she’s applying to Michigan, Depaul, Oklahoma, Baylor, and TCU. For BFA Acting/Performance. Plus, some non-audition programs.
Thanks!
Yes
I don’t remember DePaul having a prescreen (though they do a cut at their audition…only a few are called back and everyone else is out of consideration).
@kmh1993 I do not have any direct experience with the schools you mention- so I cannot speak to those schools directly. BUT in general- if 1000 people submit prescreens, a school might invite somewhere between 300-500 of them to audition. It varies by school- but 1/3-1/2 elimination seems common.
Yes, @Jkellynh17 DePaul calls back the same day…kinda scary if you fly from CO to be cut by 9:00AM! HA! Good to know about the cuts, so if you don’t get an audition time scheduled, you will definitely know where you stand and can make a plan from there.
DePaul doesn’t use prescreens but they have a two part audition. First as a group you do warm ups and exercises and then each applicant is called to do their monologues. You wait for everyone to finish. Then they announce who is being called back. You get a short break and then the call back group does their monologues again and some group work.
