I'm worried about that, because last year I totally screwed up and forgot to change "MIT" to "Harvard" in my Harvard essay. I hope they don't keep my rejected app.

In general, do schools keep rejected apps in case the rejected ppl re-apply; would they compare this year's app with past rejected apps?

Most schools keep your application on file for atleast 2 years hence the question "have you previously applied to our school?" This is in the event that you reapply they like to see what is different the second time around.

Go ahead and apply. Even if they see your mistake, it will be clear to them that you didn't make the mistake just because you didn't want to go the school and Harvard was just one of a bunch of schools you were applying to. Obviously, going to Harvard is important to you if you are applying as a transfer student.

Transfer admissions is almost impossible though so don't keep your hopes up.

k- the mistake was a mistake, it won't affect ANYTHING!!! it was a year ago for heaven's sake....they aren't going to go nitpicking through and go, wow, LAST year this kid made a mistake on his app....lets hold it against him/her!!!

that is not going to happen, they ask for a variety of reasons, not to go pull each and every file, and even if they did, it was a small error and won't effect anything this time around

You can drive yourself crazy by having too many whatifs. Do the best you can to put your best foot forward and then that is all you can do. Spend time and check your application. DD and I have been through the CA and UC about 5-6 times already. Make sure you print it out and read from scratch with a red pen before you hit submit or send.

hm. I just hope my best foot forward isn't tripped by stupid mistakes I made last year.

also, I didn't research enough last year about college apps - I didn't even know about CC, and under extracurriculars I only put things I did IN school. If this year I do include stuff like church and community service and projects, should I include a note explaining my mistake last year? I really have to include my activities outside school cos they were substantial and significant.

Send a note only if you want to highlight last year's error and make sure that they notice it.

Do your applications this year, for this year's class, and forget about the rest! You are way overthinking this process and will more than likely end up sabotaging yourself. Take a deep breath, log off CC, finish the apps and hit Submit!

Trust me Chedva, I would want that! I'm just afraid of any misunderstanding - what if they DO dig up last year's app, and don't find church activities and etcetra in the old one? I don't want them to think I just suddenly fabricated them this year.

I agree with Chedva. You are overthinking your problem and will most likely sabotaging this year effort. Do not highlight your mistake past year. That was last year. Of course that was a mistake, otherwise they would not have rejected you. Do you want to repeat the same experience?

they didn't reject the poster because of that one mistake. egad people.....colleges see all kinds of mistakes, they don't help, but would not be the reason a person got outright rejected

I'm not saying they reject OP because of that mistake. I'm saying in OP's mind he thinks that is the reason he was rejected. Sorry I did not make it clear.
