Do the Brown iconoclasts want to get organized?

I am willing to do some reorganizing on this forum if that will facilitate things for current and future applicants. This would include dropping some of the current stickies and adding others, making a Resources sticky thread for FAQs and important info, and moderating the Results threads to delete OT posts.

For an example, go to the Y forum and see how that’s set up.

Give me input today and I will proceed tomorrow if requested.

EM

I think we should keep fireandrain’s interview post stickied, but get rid of “Who at CC is applying to Brown,” since it’s not very useful.

Resources thread at the Yale forum looks great - maybe add the RD/ED results from the past three years or so.

Maybe this is just my PLME-centric self talking, but I wouldn’t mind a PLME stickied thread, since there are so many frequently asked questions that I get as PMs.

I agree with bruno14 although I’m not sure if there is a PLME thread out there worth stickying at the moment?

I didn’t click through on the yale one but the past results threads should only be included if they will be routinely locked at the conclusion of the admission cycle to avoid people posting in years old threads. E.g. even the ED one should close around January 1st this year, no reason to have it going more than a few weeks post decisions coming out.

Yes, all Results and Pledge threads are closed in a timely manner.

I would opt to put PLME, interview, etc. threads in the Resources sticky thread so that there isn’t too big a stack of stickies at the top (which CC Admin prefers). However, within reason, I think that is up to whatever works for the forum members.

I don’t know what kind of capabilities a “super moderator” entails (it sounds pretty sweet, though), but do you think you could delete the irrelevant posts in the Official 2018 ED Results thread? There’s two pages already, but only one post with someone’s QuestBridge results. Sorry if this is pushy, but could you delete everything in it but that post and the template post? I just feel it would be a more effective resource for future applicants if they don’t have to wade through unimportant posts.

^see the OP:

That would be part of what I would do, if members want changes, I prefer to do them all at once.

All of that sounds great. There isn’t currently a PLME thread, but I could create one to be put in the “resources” thread, a la fireandrain’s interview thread. We could create other ones as needed about other common topics as well.

Clean up and organization would be greatly appreciated!

And I agree with bruno14 that fireandrain’s “interview” thread should remain stickied, but the other currently stickied threads can be dropped.

I have stickied a Resources thread and unstuck others; the Interview thread is in the Resource thread. If that doesn’t work for you, let me know.

If you have any other valuable threads you want put into the Resource thread, post links here or PM me.

Any other comments or ideas welcome, the purpose is to make this forum more effective.

I’m honored that people like my interview thread enough for it to be sticked.

However, I’m afraid that putting it in a “Resources” thread is hiding it. Some people did not to see it when it was a sticky – even fewer will see it now. My impression is that many CC users are pretty lazy – they’d rather start their own topic than read five threads down the list to see the exact same question.

I do like the idea of putting links to all the results threads in one place. But I’m not sure that people would look in a folder called “Resources” to find that.

I agree with fireandrain that “hiding” the Interview thread in the Resource thread is going to make it harder to find. I’d prefer to see it stickied on its own, where people are more likely to see it.

OK, I will put the Interview thread as a stand alone sticky.

The purpose of a Resources thread is to be able to refer new members to that thread for a range of FAQs and to keep things like past Results in a readily available place. Again, the problem with lots of individual stickies is that it pushes active threads down the page. I think the Interview one is fine, but adding lots defeats the purpose.

Tell you what, I am more than happy to drop this and leave you all to your own devices.
