I have seen a few pictures of the dorm rooms. In some of them it appears you can lock your desk with a Master type lock. Others don’t appear to have any ability to lock. I have prescription meds that need to be locked up. Just wondering if I needed to buy a safe, or I would be able to lock my desk drawer. Thanks in advance… Sorry for all the questions.
I needed to buy a combination lock for my drawer in West House. You can easily attach it to the desk.
The desks in commons can be locked, so no safe necessary. The ones that don’t have locks are the older desks in towers.
Thank you @ fdgjfg and @Sophie1295
My student currently at Vanderbilt doesn’t even lock her dorm door. I’m not recommending that but there is a strong honor code throughout the school.
Definitely keep your dorm door locked. While probably nothing will happen there have been thefts from unlocked dorm rooms. And if you have a bike on campus you definitely need to keep that locked up. If you don’t it will probably be gone in a few hours.
And honestly the honor code has very little to do with the lack of thefts from dorms. There are security cameras throughout the dorms so it would be very easy to catch a student if he stole something. Plus there’s the fact that most Vandy students wouldn’t steal from another student, with or without the honor code.
