<p>I plan applying in the fall, and live in Maryland. Will it be easier me to gain admitance to Grinnell than someone applying from the Mid West.</p>
<p>Grinnell is an incredibly diverse school and people apply from all over the country so it shouldn’t be a large factor in your decision. In fact they pull a lot of people from the Wash DC/Maryland area. I would focus on making your application unique because that will give you a better chance than your geographic location.</p>
<p>Roughly 50% of the kids are from the midwest and around 12% are internationals. The remainder are primarily from the east and west coasts (not so much from the south). So, yes, I think applying from outside the midwest is a minor boost since the school is interested in raising their profile nationally. That said, rpo is correct that the applicants from outside the midwest are largely from major metro areas (no surprize) and the DC area is one place where they recruit.</p>

<p>i don’t think coming from maryland will make you particularly attractive since the school already attracts a great deal of qualitifed applicants from that area. i’ve even read somewhere that the school is trying to attract more iowan applicants.</p>
<p>I know quite a few people at Grinnell from Maryland, mostly becasuse of the Washington DC Posse. I don’t think being from Maryland will be particularly helpful, but it certainly won’t hurt. I don’t think they’d care very much unless you were from the south or maybe Hawaii/Alaska/Wyoming.</p>
