Do USD students all go home on the weekend?

I'm from the Midwest, so I wouldn't have that option, clearly. Can someone please tell me if this is a commuter school?

No they don’t! My son and his friends usually all stay on campus and maybe come home once a month. There are many events planned by the University for each weekend and many dorms and clubs have sponsored events. I believe this weekend is the Cancer Walk. In addition you have the nearby beaches and San Diego attractions that are very popular. In my son’s dorm of approx 30 students I would say the vast majority (25) are on campus for the weekend.

I have heard some not so great things about the nightlife, or lack there of. How true is this?

on my overnight i found that it is not a party school by any means and you have to join a frat basically if you want to party and your a guy…

not exactly correct… students generally move to apartments or houses on/near the beach starting 2nd year, and there are tons of parties.

yea but if your freshman dont expect to be partying on thursdays or anything

As a former student…most USD students who are from so-cal definitely don’t go home every weekend, in fact, most don’t at all. Why would you when you are in SD?! As far as the partying scene goes…yes, the general campus is quiet on the weekends, mostly because by sophomore year, most USD students have moved into beach houses in Mission Beach/PB, and are partying on the beach. It sounds lame that partying isn’t really on campus, but it’s actually better when you have rows of beach house parties every weekend. Plus, when you turn 21, the nightlife in SD is like none other.

what if you’re not a party person? more of a coffeeshop hangout bookworm kind?

Bump, bump, bump

If you’re the coffee house hangout bookworm type look me and my friends up at USD! Haha. Really though, there is a party scene, but unlike some school that is far from all that is available. For example, Aromas, the on campus coffee shop, has live performances and is open late. There are outdoor projected movies, and clubs always have something going on!
