Do which university matter a lot in the long run?

A lot of people that I know are trying to get into the UC institutions, which harbors some of the finest public tertiary education the U.S can offer. However, I feel like while the UCs may offer a bit more prestigious value than other universities like CSUs, would it really be much more advantageous over someone that went to a CSU?

For example, I had an opportunity to converse with someone that went to a UC, and he works under people that went to a CSU. Obviously the end result is acquiring a good job, and I feel like the CSU and UCs don’t differ than much in that regards. There are good networking opportunities on both end. I am not sure why people stress to go to a UC rather than a CSU more often than not.

Ultimately getting a job is due to networking, personality, and work experience.

Pretty much. But the prestige of where you went matters only slightly in the initial screening of potential applicants for a job.

I guess you can use it as more of a bragging right when you talk about what school you went to during family dinners I supposed.

You can’t really say that University A is “better” than University B, unless you’re talking about the quality of a specific program. Ultimately, I think that prestige is highly overrated, especially in the CC community.

Yea, when you actually get a job, no one will care where you went for undergrad. Society just builds up the hype that where you go is where you will end up in life and that is simply untrue and somewhat misguided.
