One thing that concerns me about Reed is that there might just be too few people there... Does anyone think there is the potential for isolation at Reed with so few people? What are the advantages/disadvantages of such a small college?

Advantages: Since the selection is so reliant on fit, you’ll find many people who are similar and/or have similar interests; you won’t feel like you’re in an ocean of people going unnoticed (small fish in a big pond scenario); you’ll have more attention from faculty, administrative staff and peers.

Disadvantages: you won’t have the breadth of people compared to a larger university-graduate students et al (sometimes there’s something to be gained from having them around not as TAs, but future role models and advisors); you might feel like you know EVERYONE at college (I personally find this an advantage, but I think it’s more of a disadvantage for many people); you might feel the need for a more balanced set of people-although despite its reputation Reed has all kinds, maybe not fundamentalist Christian Republicans, but almost every other kind.

I asked. “Because Reed is small, it’s much more important to avoid dormcest or majorcest.” Do I need to translate that for you?
