Do you guys read the textbook?

it seems like... many of my fd don't read the textbook, and they can still get good grade! Just wondering... if you guys do read the textbook.
Please state the classes

The only class I honestly have ever studied really hard for was a General Biology course, and my current Calculus course. Everything else I just wing it and usually end up with an A.

I think thats what I'll miss most about community college, the easiness of the work.

For me...
if I am paying for the book, I should get something out of it!

yeah i read it. what also helps is (only if you're dedicated) study the material ahead of time. not before class but like a semester ahead. buy a self taught book that is related to the course you think is gonna be tough and just study that and you'll be really prepared for the class when you take it.

But reading the materials before class helps a lot too.

I most always read the book; almost all my classes require the book to be read in order to achieve an A. And, as I have seen in my polisci courses, if the reading isn't done there is absolutely no way anyone could walk out of the class with a grade higher than a D.

I would do the reading now, and practice your reading strategies to get them down before you transfer --that way, upper division courses will be much easier.

Back to forcing myself to read my Ecology text.

Entirely depends on the instructor. I do enjoy reading as a hobby, so if an instructor tests entirely off of the notes I still might poke around in the book for fun. But in cases like that I'd rather not buy the textbook in the first place if we're not going to touch it. I don't like to throw money around for no reason and if I'm that interested in the subject I'll pick up my own (normally priced) book on it.

But to answer your question...I've experienced the entire spectrum, but it usually lands in the middle (moderate reading). Winter and Summer sessions are the only time it felt crammed, but it was still extremely doable.

I usually don't pay any attention in class( I don't know why). So I end up having to read to prep for exam. But usually its mostly last minute reading. Like reading 100+ pages for a humanities class the day before the midterm. And I usually top the class. For physics, now thats a different story.

all depends and usually for sciecne class i do read also english

I read the book, though my learning is mostly what the teachers say. It saves time and I know I can refer to my good notes. Taking good notes= A's on tests. Pay attention to the Professor for 1 1/2 hours and everything will be cool. Hey it beats trying to teach yourself and being confused for hours the night before a big exam. =P
