Do you guys think that this selection of books that I chose makes it sound like I'm trying too hard?

so for the list past school assigned books that you have read that have stayed with you I chose this list:

Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

Animal Farm by George Orwell

A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey

Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes

Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse

I listed forty or fifty, most of which are “classics.” (Perhaps the admissions officers decided that I was trying so hard that I wasn’t trying at all.) Your list is fine.

omg @Exodius forty or fifty?!? i only listed like 18 in total. did you get in??

Yes. Two years ago. Columbia admitted me for the Class of 2016.

What the hell kind of schools do you guys attend?! It’s books read at SCHOOL in the past YEAR. Like, idk about you guys, but we certainly haven’t read 40 (or even 18 for that matter) books at school lol.
My list looks a lot more like @daahoudmd‌’s.
And I don’t think it looks like you’re trying too hard because they’re school assigned books… it’s not like you had a choice in what was read lol. Your list of personal books should probably have some more variety (but again, I listed some of my favorites, not all of them hahaha. Maybe I’m in the wrong here?)
