Do you have a disaster plan?

Thanks for all of your answers so far. Two things come to mind about what I’ve read.

Very few people mentioned first aid and medicine. I’d suggest a relatively robust first aid kit for everyday life, let alone a disaster.

Only one person mentioned things for their vehicle. It’s likely we won’t have the luxury of the unexpected happening while we’re at home on the couch. Assemble a small bag for your car or truck.

Here are 2 things to keep in mind.

We do have an advanced first aid kit in the house and the car (with quick clot dressing bandages), an emergency shovel/glass break combo tool for the car, escape ladders for the upper floors of the house, working smoke/fire/CO2 doctors, etc… We’ve always had those things so it doesn’t feel like a “disaster” plan to me…more like having ibuprofen in the house ; )

LOL! I bet most people here have ibuprofen, but there won’t be many others that have things like QuikClot, Israeli bandages and tourniquets. Kudos to you for having something like that.

I have Life Straws as well in all of our vehicles.

My “kids” are parents themselves, but I still carry bandaids in my purse/crossover bag. Surprising how often they come in handy.

I am feeling seriously unprepared!

I just slipped on the stairs in our cabin. I was holding onto the railing but slid on my butt all the way down and scraped the back of one leg badly. DH had gauze and triple antibiotic ointment but he was just saying we need more medical supplies. The nearest ER is an hour and a half away. We visited it multiple times last year. Psychiatric emergency and accidents. My daughter has a friend who would like to come up here but she has such a severe peanut allergy she can’t be that far from medical help.

I always have such a stockpile of OTC meds that I don’t even think about it. I have plenty of everything at home and always keep several doses of everything in my purse. It’s a mom thing. Don’t want to be on a car trip and someone gets dirrahea and no immodium and no drug store in sight. We aren’t on any prescription meds.

We have basic first aid kits in all cars and we have tons of stuff at home. Active kids, active parents. We’ve had plenty of bumps and broken bones and such… I finally threw out about half a dozen ice packs last week. I think we still have a dozen more of all shapes and sizes. And braces, and wraps and a boot and crutches.

We also have the emergency car kits - jumper cables, flares, flashlights, battery back-up, etc. in all cars.

I buy one of these for every car we own. I highly recommend them.

Is there a version for electric cars?

Don’t some electric cars have a traditional version of a car battery as well?

there is a 12 v battery, but at least with some cars it warns you when its getting low and there is time to replace it.

I recently got a small first aid kit for my sling bag I take walking/hiking ($9 at Amazon). It’s packed with useful goodies.

I also have similar items in my car and more resources at home.

Items in my walking kit.

I think that’s similar to what we have in our cars. We got these for ours and the kids

Very similar, and very useful.

I have stuff in the car. A window shattering gadget, emergency roadside kit with jumper cables and flare, and tiny first aid kit.

I’ll need my animal protein to continue to build strong muscles and you’ll certainly have plenty of it on your property.

Do you have a disaster plan ?

No, but do have preventive items such as adult size life jackets for undertow at beaches.

Typical car supplies like jumper cables.

Yes, plenty of deer and some rabbit. A few squirrels too but I think the local hawk has been having some of those for dinner lately.

I have a first aid kit in the car and various stuff in the bathrooms. No tourniquet, or whatever the clot stuff was. We also have solar panels with battery backup.

So back to topic, back when there were all the CA fires, we brought the family 3M Masks. But… those masks had vents to be able to exhale, so not so useful in the past 3 years crisis. That said, they just put a quarter on the inside of the vent, and it covered it up (Maybe also taped the outside too?)
