I just got back from DC and had this exact dish days after the Bidens. I would def get it again and every time I go. Generally, I like when dh and I order different things so we can sample as much of a menu as possible, but I totally get why they both ordered the rigatoni. Heaven on Earth.
I do have a strategy, and it’s based on what I like to eat. I don’t eat anything from the water, so no seafood. I don’t eat veal (have you seen those crates they keep them in??!!). So I just look at the chicken, pork and beef dishes and choose from those items that have ingredients I like.
DH and I might swap a bite to taste the other’s, but not if he’s eating seafood.
If it is a restaurant that we have gone to multiple times, we order what we want. If it is a new restaurant, we’ll normally order different dishes to share, often 1 item will be more adventurous and the other “safer”.
I order what I want but it bothers H and S if we order the same thing. I don’t get it. They will give me a hard time if I do, but I want to eat what I want to eat.
There’s a lot I don’t/won’t/can’t eat, so we usually order different items. Husband knows I seldom finish entrees so he can have what I don’t finish if he wants to try it. We have shared bites from each other’s plate if we like both entrees. On rare occasion we both like the same starter, so we might duplicate. We usually share a dessert; normally my choice but he has veto power.
We never order the same things, we are both very adventurous eaters. When we were dating, he’d usually finish my meals, when we got married I’d take my leftovers home for the next day, unless we are out with the kids and then they can eat what I have left (I always have food left).
H and I never have leftovers. And I guess we do share appetizers like bacon cheese fries or nachos or quesadillas. But entrees? Never! I also don’t even like when someone wants me to try something of theirs. Just no! And never ever ever touch my dessert. I might just stab you with a fork. Though usually we eat dessert at home and save the $$$.
Unless it is a fancy restaurant with tiny portions, we usually get two salads and split an entree and a dessert - we don’t eat desserts at home.
If we like something, it becomes our staple order, like 1/2 kanpachi at Mina’s. I had to at the recent warmings we got from the waiters about the fish we ordered - it comes with a head and a tail! That’s how we always had it! I guess some faint at that sight.
