Do you have any SAT prep tips for a beginner????

I was unsatisfied with my PSAT score (I think it was 155). I know I could do a lot better if I knew more and practiced. But that's the problem - I don't know where to start! I need prep books, but when I got Kaplan's, people told me to "burn that trash." Basically my questions are:

How was your SAT experience like?

What prep book did you use and/or recommend?

Besides reading the prep book, what else should I be doing?

Any other tips/advice you'd like to share?

Did you take the ACT as well? How as it?

What's the diff. b/t SAT I, SAT II, SAT Subject Tests, the "regular SAT," and any others that I missed?

Thanks for your time! I'd really like to score 2000+, and would love your help. Care to share what score you got?

[SAT Preparation - College Confidential](SAT Preparation - College Confidential Forums) would probably be a more helpful place to post this. We mostly party here.

Bubble in your answers every 5 questions. Truthfully, this was a great way to make sure that I wouldn’t misgrid, and I still use this tactic for tests at school.

here’s what you need to do:

-get the blue book

 • review over some of the chapters (briefly or in-depth depending on how much time you have and how much patience you have)
 • do practice runs on different sections (i.e. take a practice section, not the whole test). do this a couple of times
 • do one or a few whole tests (if you have time and have the patience to do it)
 • take the test

this was my experience. methods that are helpful for you may be a bit different. good luck :)

Take the ACT instead.

Totally irrelevant but I accidentally clicked on your profile and ohmygosh you have the same birthday as me! Different year though.
