Do you have any specific advice for art supplements?

I'm submitting one to Stanford for piano.

Have you read the Arts Supplement discussion on Stanford’s webite. If so, that is about as specific as one can get as to procedure. Note though that Stanford uses terms such as “extraordinary talent” and “demonstrated artistic talent a level beyond what is normally exhibited” when discussing arts supplements. Thus, the bar is set high, so try and achieve the same standards for your supplement as if you were submitting a prescreen to a top conservatory or SOM. Of interest is that their website is currently advertising the number of Steinways the university has. Good luck!!

We called a college and asked if it would be helpful to cue the CD for what the applicant thinks is his or her best work, just to save them from listening to the whole CD. This was for composition, so it is a little different, but just a thought.

Could a bad supplement hurt my overall application?

It would make Stanford wonder why you submitted it in the first place. They do not want art supps for the sake of art supps. It must be something special. It won’t hurt not to submit it. It won’t help to submit one that is not up to the standard.
