Do you have to prove journal paper submissions?

So I am currently applying for some programs. The lab I worked at, we submitted a paper recently.

I listed this on my resume and in my SOP. Would the adcoms want to see a copy of this submission or how do I prove it? Or do they not really care?

If it hasn’t been accepted yet you list the title and authors and reference it as “Submitted.” If it has been accepted but not yet published you reference it with the name of the journal plus “In press.” If it has been published you reference it by it’s full publication reference.

Whatever the case you should include it in your app. Grad schools love to see evidence that you are already successfully engaged in research.

Some admissions committees may want to see a draft, especially if you are further up on the authorship list. But until they ask, just put it on your CV as “submitted”. Don’t worry about proof; if they want it, they will ask.
