I'm considering the iMac for 1300, which is pretty good since it has an Intel Chip. Since I'm already shelling out 1300 bucks on a laptop, I'd rather not spend 200 on a second OS (Windows XP Pro). Windows XP Home edition is just 99 dollars, which is much better. So do we really use XP Pro or is it just a something-to-have at Georgia Tech? I know it says Mac OS X Tiger is good enough, but I'd like windows to run some Microsoft games on it.

Who told you you had to use xp pro?

No you dont, mostly all profs and a handful of students use linux. You'd be fine with a mac.

sco.gatech.edu says that XP Pro is required, so I just went off of that. But I don't see much difference between Pro and Home, so I was wondering if theres some magic thing about Pro i was ignorant about.

They give you the OS at the beginning of the school year.

You'll be fine with anything. If you ever absolutely need anything, the library has it. IMO the SCO is simply a way for profs and the school to cover their ass in the case a student complains he/she can't do an assignment because of a computer issue, etc.

The same reason you are required to check your email every 24 hours. You don't exactly have to check it or be kicked out, but if a prof sends something and you don't get it, you have to deal with it.
