The number of examples, as was stated earlier, is not the factor that one should focus on. The writing does not even need to be factual. Even if you are blatantly disregarding facts but using appropriate vocabulary, displaying a variety of sentence structures, and adhering to your thesis, you will receive a favorable score.

On a side note, the high number of odd-numbered scores (i.e. 9, 11) is a tad troublesome. An essay should either be one grade or the other, not a mix of two different scores. For instance, if one gave you a five and another six, your score could vary from a 10-12 depending on exactly who reads your essay. The difference between a 10 and a 12 can have a great effect on your future.

Although many good writers get high scores by using only one example, using three examples is a safer path to a higher score for the rest of us. :)

How accurate are the online cb scoring for the online course? I did a bunch of mine using only personal examples and got 12s and as soon as i heard about the whole history/literature thing and tried using those examples i started gettings 10s. I dont really think the essay’s testing your outside knowledge as much as it is testing your ability to use your examples to prove your thesis

wait. So I could make up a date from history and say the declaration of independence was signed on july 22, 1715 and they won’t mark me down for it? in fact, they’ll mark me up, because i’m being specific???

I heard the reader will be more impressed if you use something that is not cliched not well known like steve jobs than if you make up a name that nobody knows like Coolio McGEe.
