7) Do you live with someone who is a smoker (parents, siblings, etc.)? Yes. Mom, Stepdad, Dad,Stepmom(2 different houses obviously). Pretty much every adult I know smokess.
8) Why do you (or someone else you know) smoke? They smoke because they started young and got addicted.
9) Should cigarettes be continued to be made? or should they be banned? No. They should be banned--they do no one any good. And these people who on this thread have said they should still be made..that is stupid. so yeah there.

There are a lot of things that don't do any good. Chocolate doesn't do any good, neither do chips or cookies. Should we ban them as well? They add to obesity. Why do you or the government have the right to tell people things are "bad" and therefore they shouldn't do them?

you know what dont even. are you seriously, honestly comparing cigarettes to chocolate??? Cigarettes literally kill what thousands upon thousands of people. They will probably kill my parents. They literally dont do any good. Cigarettes are bad by definition. They are entirely BAD for your health. Says the Surgeon General, doctors, everyone but the industry itself. And it ticks me off that you put bad in quotes...if u wanna keep cigarettes on the market then fine, but dont deny or mock the fact that they are indeed bad. Ok. Thanks.

I agree they are harmful. But I think bad is a subjective word and I prefer to stick to harmful, dangerous etc. Regardless of their impact I think people should still have the choice. Some people want to smoke and know the health risks and I believe that is their choice to make- not an elected official or government body. I apologize if I offended you- I am not trying to mock the danger. I understand it well- my grandfather died from lung cancer from smoking. I still believe in choice though.

9) Banned, I see no benefit.

Actually chocolate does lots of good, but the sugars put into it arent good. Cigaretts employ few people to make their economic impact worthy. They pollute the air, are dropped on the ground, cause family pain (emotional+physical), annoy people like me, make a few select owners very rich, take income away from young people, cause birth complications.

i would say most people dont smoke because "they think it is fun" f.y.i. perhaps thats why they start smoking, but im pretty damn sure they keep smokign cuz of that whole nicotene thing, you may have heard of it, well it kinda makes you ADDICTED to it and makes it extremely difficult to up and quit. o and by the way props on having brains enough to realize that smokign should be banned. if pot is illegal, so should cigarettes. thats that.

Well then if you take a line of reasoning like that, if pot is illegal alcohol is illegal. Since when is it the Government's job to tell me what is bad for me. Obviously cigarettes are harmful and alcohol is harmful but should anyone tell me that I can not use these because they are "bad". It's called choice.

4) Do you smoke? on a casual basis; I don't need a smoke every day but if someone offers me one, then sure.

5) If so, how long have you been smoking? about five months

6) If you are under the age of 18, do you plan to smoke? well I'm 18 right now, and I didn't PLAN on smoking (in fact, I never did before college) but it just happened.

7) Do you live with someone who is a smoker (parents, siblings, etc.)?my dad + brother smoke

8) Why do you (or someone else you know) smoke? it's a way to chill out and chat with someone. plus it gives you something to do with your hands.

9) Should cigarettes be continued to be made? or should they be banned? still made. they're bad for you but so is fried chicken, come on.

8) The only reason I can think of is peer pressure, and then once someone starts, its kind of hard to stop because of addiction and stuff.
9) Yea, they should be continues to be made, and should not be banned. The government shouldn't be telling us what's good for us, or what's bad. People should be able to make their own decisions about that.

8) Enjoyment, part of that comes from the image, the actual experience, and the fact that it is illicit. Possibly also because they are addicted. Not sure.
9) Yes, but TAX EM BIG. and I think if tobacco is legal, there is no earthly reason that pot shouldn't be.

Ummmm....no. :)

Sorry I meant to type alcohol should be illegal.

i know what you meant. :) That was me disagreeing.

Cigarettes cause secondhand smoke. Chocolate/fatty foods do not. Pot does not cause seconhand stoning!

Befor cigarrettes should be banned being overweight and junk food should have more serious consequences... watch "SuperSize Me" and you'll see what I mean. The MAJORITY of obese people are ADDICTED to food and aergo they should be banned from eating excess junk food before we talk about eliminating smoking. I know it sounds harsh but think about it. But, I do agree with what you said Jimbob

Obesity is a major major problem. Just think of the health care costs to come-that we will have to pay for. What about the social costs of alcohol or prescription drugs? What about glue or aerosol spray- kids inhaling those and dying. Should we make all of this illegal? What would be left?

ok now this is starting to bug me. Obesity is a major problem. But honestly I find it ridiculous that you compare it to smoking. so can u stop. You know its not the same. Smoking is much more hazardous. It is literally addicting, much more than tasty doughnuts. And second smoke, which who knows could end up killing me, there is no second hand eating. all these other examples have alternate purposes--prescription drugs, food, alcohol. Cigarettes, they are purelyyy hazardous and malevolent to your health.
