Good post. GreenDay has no idea what he is talking about. Simply saying no after someone brings up a good point does not do any good. If you want to prove your point then prove it, don't just complain. So far it seems Libertarians - 3, GreenDay - 0

yeaa could u nott insult me personally please? i just dont want others to die like my parents probably will theres no need to be like this.

o and p.s. because your opinion differs from mine does not mean i have no idea what im talking about.

greenday dude, banning cigarettes doesn't mean that people will stop smoking. I see where you're coming from, but a ban won't work.

I'm not libertarian but I still see no point in banning them.

well i just dont see the logic in keeping them.. people keep comparing them to friggen junk food and crap. Which is retarded. THEY ARE PURELY BAD. theres no point in keeping them on the market and contributing to deaths and to the wealth of the a s s h o l e s in the tobacco industry.

and i dont truly care if its bad for the economy. because cigarettes indirectly put a lot of people into debt anyway. they should be BANNED.

lol banning cigarettes is ****ing crazy! it'll be the most outrageously stupid thing since the prohibition. forbidding a vice that's inherent in human nature doesn't eliminate the negative consequences, but brings about more. . smuggling/black market, mafia, lower tax profits for the government, crappier cigarettes. and no one actually quits. people need to smoke, jerk off, drink, smoke weed, get laid, watch porn, eat doughnuts and french fries, get rid of a child they never wanted before it's too late and they ruin their lives...
instead of banning cigarettes the government should focus on legalizing light drugs, abortion and gay marriage- try to comply with people's needs, not with the fanatic views of brainwashed uberchristian conservatives.

4) Do you smoke? YES
5) If so, how long have you been smoking? bout 2 years
6) If you are under the age of 18, do you plan to smoke? ummmm... this is confusing me:p
7) Do you live with someone who is a smoker (parents, siblings, etc.)? totally antismokers
8) Why do you (or someone else you know) smoke? Initially, I loved drinking my coffee with a cigarette and I slowly started smoking more and more. I wasn't crazy about the smoke itself at first, it was more about the effects it brought . now I love the smell and taste of cigarettes, how it relaxes or stimulates me. I tend to eat less junk food when I smoke (there're also financial reasons for that) I also love to tease non smokers :p
9) Should cigarettes be continued to be made? or should they be banned? of course they should be made. I'm for strict legislation though, especially in eastern europe. kids here do start a bit early.

"because cigarettes indirectly put a lot of people into debt anyway."

um, no. how is it indirect if people have a choice? its sad your parents are addicted, but NOTHING AND NO ONE is forcing them to smoke. i understand cigs are addictive, but there's absolutely no denying they are choosing (and chose to start no less) to smoke cigs. hey, maybe they should start smoking spliffs. theyd get the nicotine they crave and be a lot happier about it too. haha

Ok first of all, Holden...yeah it sure is sad they are addicted. They started decades ago before they were aware of the harmful effects of smoking. Secondly..they have attempted numerous times, both of them, to quit smoking--the patch, gum, cold turkey...it isn;t as damn easy as you make out to be. O and the 'haha' at the end of your post make any of that s h i t funny.
SAT_Hater:::first of all, dont start putting words in my mouth now. I ONLY said cigarettes should be banned, not porn, doughnuts, or masturbation lol. And for the record...

I'm pro-choice, pr0-gay marriage, and am neither Christian nor conservative..thank you very muchh...

greenday, I never mantioned your name, nor was I indirectly talking about you;) besides, I'm sure there are very few die hard conservatives around here, especially greenday fans. so youre cool, but I still think you're horribly wrong about the cigarettes ban. prohibitions always backfire, it's a historical fact. demand for all lewd attributes of life is constant, you can't bring it down with democratic laws. true, bans work in totalitarian societies-fewer people drink or take drugs in Kuwait or saudi arabia but those who get caught doing it can face death penalty, which is quite undemocratic, not applicable in the western world. weed is illegal just about everywhere, but millions smoke it , even though some of the stuff out there is of dangerously inferior quality (I've witnessed the nasty effects of bulgarian pot, lol). so you can't stop people from smoking (cigarettes, marijuana...). you can just make it another one of those illegal activities that people will nevertheless indulge in, only to fill the pocket of the mafia.

"it isn;t as damn easy as you make out to be." um, GreenDayFruitCake, can you point out to me where exactly i said quiting was easy? ya, i never did. maybe YOU shoudlnt be putting words in other people's mouths (hypocrite!). i realize its hard as hell to quit, but that does not have any affect on the fact that they chose, and ARE CHOOSING, to smoke. therefore, cigarettes are not "indirectly" putting your parents, or anyone else, in debt. in fact, it really couldnt be any more direct: you parents made, and are making, an active, conscious decsion to smoke, and therefore they give their cash to cigarette company's for thier product...? direct as hell, bud.

regarding my "haha" at the end of my post: do you know what a spliff is? i'll just tell you. it's a cigarette/joint, that is, a mixture of marijuana and tobacco. i thought it was a somewhat humorous suggestion, and therefore i felt the "haha" at the end of my post was warranted. however, im not really sure what you were saying because you wrote "O and the 'haha' at the end of your post make any of that s h i t funny." which is not a sentence...? this is beside the point, but you should never consider becoming a lawyer. you make some of the weakest arguments of all time. i look forward to your response.

upon rereading my post, i decided the fruitcake comment wasnt really justified or necessary. im just gonn apologize in advance.

8) Why do you (or someone else you know) smoke? People I know smoke either during stressful times or purely due to addiction...
9) Should cigarettes be continued to be made? or should they be banned? Why not, it is well advertised that smoking is very detrimental to people's health and it's their choice to threaten their own healths...However, I do think smoking in public places should be limited by law (if people don't want to expose themselves to smoke it is also their right...)

9) They should continue to be manufactured only because if they were banned more problems would happen like SAT-hater said. Thye should be banned from public areas though because non smokers should not have to inhale all of those chemicals unwillingly if someone in the same room as them is.

This might sound kind of weird, but I'm actually allergic to cigarette smoke. My thoat seems to close up if I inhale it.

That happens to me too. It also makes my eyes sting.

Okay GreenDay if cigarettes are banned then what is next? French fries, alcohol, chewing tobacco? The government can't hold your hand and make sure you don't do anything to harm yourself. That is not the inherent point of government. Cigarettes are bad - no one argues that but it is not the government's job to ban something that is considered a vice such as cigarettes. Alcohol is much more harmful in terms of externalities (drunk driving etc...) but you don't seem to want to ban alcohol and when the government did, it failed dismally. And I'm sorry your parents smoke and I'm sorry you have to deal with that but at some point they made a choice to start smoking and it is hard to quit but your parents made a choice to start.

I HATE cigarettes...They are the reason that I have no grandparents. They have killed millions of people. They have caused many preventable deaths. They stink. They are expensive. They are unattractive. They do horrible things to a person's breath, teeth, and gums. BUT...I don't think they should be banned. EVER.

How much more tempting is something when it is illegal? I guess this mostly applies to younger smokers, but I hardly know anyone in my class that smokes cigarettes, but everyone smokes weed.

Also, smoking is a choice. The people who have heard everything that is wrong with smoking, but continue to smoke are dumb enough to do it after it is banned. The popularity of cigarettes has steadily declined over the years, and I fear that a ban would upset this decrease in smokers.

I personally consider the option to smoke a right of mine that I earned when I was born into this wonderful country. Even though I will never use it, I would be extremely ****ed off if anyone took that from me. The government can only "baby" the public so much, and banning cigarettes would be crossing the line.

So people keep smoking on their own will. I just figure that I'd make public knowledge available to everyone. And, the mob is no where near as big as it once was. They will not get rich when cigaretts are banned. If people want to still smoke, they will face the consequences as if they had any illegal substance. They would only do this if they really needed the drug, in which case it would mean cigaretts are addictive, leading to a previous statement about a conscience will false.

Info from icotine is one of the most heavily used addictive drugs in the United States. In 2003, 29.8 percent of the U.S. population 12 and older70.8 million peopleused tobacco at least once in the month prior to being interviewed.*
In 1989, the U.S. Surgeon General issued a report that concluded that cigarettes and other forms of tobacco, such as cigars, pipe tobacco, and chewing tobacco, are addictive and that nicotine is the drug in tobacco that causes addiction. The report also determined that smoking was a major cause of stroke and the third leading cause of death in the United States.
bacco use remains the leading preventable cause of death in the United States, causing approximately 440,000 premature deaths each year and resulting in an annual cost of more than $75 billion in direct medical costs.

Try to quit and this happens
Addiction to nicotine results in withdrawal symptoms when a person tries to stop smoking. For example, a study found that when chronic smokers were deprived of cigarettes for 24 hours, they had increased anger, hostility, and aggression, and loss of social cooperatio

it is not a chocie to keep smoking when you are addicted.period. Its not a choice to breath. Its not a choice to be ADDICTED.
