Do you think asking too much FA badly hurts your chance as an intl app?

so desperate after getting six rej..

I just wonder whether an appl with FC10,000 >> an appl with FC 20,000?

it certainly hurts, but I know internationals that got full rides

Umm, yeah...

It doesn't.

It can hurt. It depends on each school's individual financial aid policy. You have to read what each school says.

it really depends. if u r applying to HYPM, that will not be a prob, cuz they r really generous. but if u r applying to skools like UPenn, stanford, etc. you'd better be praying...

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!

Okay, based on my "research" (a.k.a. stalking colleges). Yeah, it does hurt... unless you're totally like, an OMGWTHyesYesYEZZZZZZ student they can't resist (haha).

Most colleges would have to consider your EFC before they admit you. The greater your EFC, the better your chances. They cannot exhaust a huge chunk of their funds just for one kid with like, zero EFC. And what's the point of admitting a student who can't pay anyway? (I think a few schools do offer admission to internationals though even if they can't meet full aid. They'll just have to look for outside sources.)

Some other colleges, on the other hand, only offer competitive private scholarships to internationals because we don't qualify for federal aid (which is a huge source of funding). So, yeah, it's kind of a disadvantage for us.

P.S. This whole thing does NOT apply, however, to colleges that are need-blind to internationals (e.g. HYP, Middlebury, MIT, & Williams... y'know... the really impossible-ish ones to get into).

My mistake was that I did not even bother to try and look for outside loans/grants/scholarships to somehow increase my EFC... So yeah, try that out.

thank you all for the posts..
I just got waitlisted at Columbia, and with another northwestern wl..

I just wonder whether increasing my FC now to try to get off the WL makes sence?

from $18,000 to 35,000?(by applying the loan)

I applied for full financial aid and this is what happened:

Harvard - rejected
Yale - deferred SCEA; rejected
Princeton - rejected
Cornell - rejected
Northwestern - rejected
Middlebury - waitlisted (praying...)
Johns Hopkins - waitlisted (praying...)
Williams - pending
UMich - pending
UWisc - pending

Very disappointing but I'll be strong... :)

Oh boeing, it's 'interesting' that you almost made the same experiences that I made. What's your plan if you shouldn't get in anywhere?

kinda hard to get off from the WL。。。
