Do you think I will get any need-based aid with a EFC of 35,500

for private schools? EFC 35,500.

It really depends on which private school; did you have to also fill out a CSS/Profile (which takes into account home equity). Some private schools costing $50,000 will give you $14,400 (or more) in grants, but those are usually the private schools that are most difficult to get into. Many won’t give you any grant aid at all and expect you to pay from savings, income and loans.

how colleges ranked 20-50 from usnews?

We just got acceptance letter to RPI -our efc was 32000 they offered 2k!!! Just put in an appeal. Don’t know what else to do it costs 48k

Just be prepared for your FA award to basically expect you and parents to have to pay full cost, and have a backup plan (like a state college) if that isn’t possible.

Why did you create two threads for this topic? In the other thread you said you might get admitted to Vanderbilt. Go to their web page and check it out. The Financial Aid office has a big, bold web page announcing an expanded aid program that meets 100% of need. So, yes, Vandy would give you grants so that you don’t have to pay more than the EFC.

I don’t know, you could probabuly get away with fudging that number a bit. By a bit I mean a lot.
