Do you think I will get merit money later?

so i just got accepted to american and financial aid is giving me like 3,500 (that i'll have to pay back eventually) and i haven't found out about any merit yet. :(

my parents make a lot of money, and money was left by my grandma when she died for my college education, and don't have any problem paying for it, but I JUST FEEL BAD because I wish i could help pay.

anyways, i had like a 3.7 gpa out of 4, but my sats suck so that's why i think i got in, but won't get any aid.

do they ever give merit aid based on like HS grades?

any ideas of how i can help pay the 40K a year my parents are gonna have to pay?

Apply to as many scholarships you can find? :S

Try local, it's the easiest to get money with local ones...

Take out some loans. The average college student takes out a total of $20,000 in loans to pay for 4 years of college, so that amount is reasonable to take out.

Also, you can work fulltime during vacations and earn enough money to pay for books and your daily expenses at college.

Sometimes schools give out departmental scholarships after you commit to them. These are either less widely advertised or not advertised at all. But only sometimes. You could e-mail your department chair and ask--it can't hurt. Take everyone else's advise as well.
