Do you think taking Arabic in college and improving my skills will be useful?

Yes, I already speak some colloquial Arabic, though I could take it for four semesters in college, if I wanted to.

I'll be attending UW-Madison and studying engineering, if that helps. I'm not sure of the type of engineering as of yet, though that will be figured out by the end of this first semester.

If you want to enrich yourself, then take the Arabic. If you want to work overseas, then take Arabic.

:(

I was so excited to see that a spot in first semester Arabic opened up, but now I'm hearing from everyone that it's not useful to go that route.

I love travel as well, but I would definitely not want to work for any government.

Well, what do you think? I would be taking Arabic solely because of my strong interest for the language. I need 128 credits for graduation, and Arabic would take up 20 (4 classes * 5 cr each). That's a lot of general credits that doesn't cover any reqs like humanities, social science, etc...

Take it as an elective. If you want to, you should.

Chinese and Arabic are actually the most useful languages to be studying right now. You could end up turning it into something useful.

Thanks, friend. We'll see. I'll take at least one semester and see from there.

lucky me i already speak, read and, write arabic

I think learning any foreign language is worthwhile, especially if you're interested. I say do what you love and enrich your life, like ses said, while you're doing it.
