do you think we'll hear the 28th or the 31st

Just for fun- still awake at 2:30 am writing for work. No decision yet :-P

Good luck to everyone! Let’s hope we all hear tomorrow. My (complete) guess is decisions will be posted in the evening, so that the office is closed when potential students find out.

wow, they REALLY seem to be dragging this out as much as they can!!

Well, today’s the day! I only got 4 hours of sleep so todays going to be a long one. I can’t believe they waited until the very last day in January…

8 am and nothing. god it probably wont be until this evening. ughhh

I just called Admissions and the very nice lady told me that decisions being mailed today and posted online tomorrow. Hope this alleviates some stress for everyone! We should have called on Friday!

she didnt happen to say what TIME tommorow did she?

Are you serious? If thats true, I really don’t like umd right now because tomorrow is Feb. If umd had learned a little bit of communication, I wouldn’t be mad, but they didn’t so now I’m pretty frustrated.

I was told the same thing. They might be online tonight they said.

Really? The fact that the decisions are coming out February first gets you mad?
The decisions couldn’t possibly be late because they lost two days last week and for more that 24 hours there was no power going anywhere but dorms?

That being said, good luck to all of you. The wait will help prepare future Terps for twenty-forty minutes spent on hold with DOTS and other departments, or eight days (yes eight) waiting for a screen replacement for a window that one of their squirrels chewed another hole through…UMD good school…you’ll learn patience and beer pong for sure.

I hope they’re up tonight. I don’t mind the timing so much, it was them dragging it out unnecessarily that bugs me. What’s the harm in posting them today?

snow days or no snow days, they still should keep applicants posted about changes in admissions releases. I don’t understand why they don’t keep an admissions blog like other schools. This would allow questions to be answered and posted for the public instead of applicants having to scrounge around collegeconfidential for scraps of info or calling the admissions office(which I’m sure does not speed up the decision posting process and creates hassle for the people working in the office)

i pray for my own sanity theyre up unexpectedly tonight
this is redic…if they are already made and theyre being updated tomorrow, i’m guessing everything is programmed already…so why cant they just release them tonight?
grrr

Actually, all they needed to do was post something on their site stating when the decisions would be released. It’s all about managing expectations.

@PA2015 you’re right. A simple update message or a solid date would have been completely acceptable. I don’t like being left in the dark and told i would get a decision in late January, only to actually get it in february. I understand the problems with snow days and power outages, but just put a one liner saying “decisions have been delayed and will be released online on Feb. 1.” I don’t think that would have been too much work for someone.

I thought I read somewhere that Maryland is like Wisconsin, you apply to the school in general and technically there are no easier majors or schools? Say, it’s as difficult to get into business as a freshmen as education?

That’s not completely correct. There are some majors you can apply directly to such as the Smith School of Business and it’s definitely harder to get in there than in the school generally. For example, I believe you need a minimum 1300 SAT (on a 1600 scale) as well as a minimum GPA (although I think UMD recalculates GPAs to put them all into a single standard).

just called admissions and the lady said the decisions will go up after 5pm tonight. hopefully it actually happens!!

Dude they had since 11/1/2010

Referring to the information that the decisions will be posted at 5, it’s funny because they clearly don’t want to field angry calls. However, had they posted the results on Friday at 5 pm, it would have given those not accepted an extra 2 days to digest the information before calling. Sigh.

End of January ---- 11:59PM is their posted deadline
