Is it a bad idea to consider becoming a doctor if you had a B in high school Honors Bio and Chem. (and As in everything else)? Also, what are the best programs/activities to be involved in if you are interested in studying medicine?

It is probably a bad idea.. an interested medical doctor enjoys and gets A's in Bio & Chem...
best activity- join HOSA, join some Medical society, volunteer at a hospital, uh work at a clinic, get your certifications in some medically related field, do a research program

Its not a bad idea to me. If you have an interest in become a doctor then just try harder to make B's and A's when you get to college. High school grades will not matter to medical schools. I second volunteering and shadowing as some activities you should pursue.

Seriously, if you're getting B's in high school, I wouldn't even consider being pre-med. Do something else.

Its not a bad idea just keep working at it I'm sure there are lots of doctors that were in your situation but they were still interested and they didn't give up. and wegman22 pre-med is basically just a fancy way of saying that your on your way to becoming a doctor. there are people who don't become doctors and take classes that people who are in pre med do.

Are you all serious?

most them are not being serious...

If you're interested in pre-med, try it. Simple as that.

Gosh...way to bring the person down.

I think that nothing is ever impossible. If you are REALLY interested in becoming a doctor, then all you have to do is try harder in those classes. That is only if you are VERY interested and considering medicine. When I first took Bio and Chem...I thought they were hard, but as you grasp the concept, they become easier.

To see if medicine is really for you, I would contact some local doctors in the fields you are considering and see if they will let you shadow them a couple times.

I was involved in activities such as a Medical Club (hold a position...I was president), National Honor Society, and other clubs that do a lot of volunteer work.

Volunteer at a hospital, shadow doctors, go to nursing homes, stay active in the community/church.

Thanks everyone =)

First off, I've never heard of high school performance affecting the decision nor interest of being a doctor. What matters most is your college and med school experience, not a few points you could have upped your grade by.

Secondly, (not to brag, just to emphasize my point) my dad is the director of medicine at his clinic and he didn't develop any more of an interest through honors level bio nor chem courses that he took in high school.

Lastly, if you want to get your MD, go for it. You don't need to be a national finalist of the Bio olympiad to save lives... If you can commit to a long term program and have the desire to aid people, there's no reason not to pursue medicine.

I agree with UchihaMikyas. I don't think that high school grades should affect your interest of becoming a doctor.

if you have a strong desire to become a doctor. You'll find a way to get it.
well, you should do a lot of community services, and shadow doctors.

i suggest in doing community services in hospital because it's a very good opportunity to see what field of medicine you want to enter.
