Documenting my College Admissions Process as a URM

Cornell decision is on Monday. I’m not anxious surprisingly but all of that will change come Monday

wHY aM I stiLl Up…

Today is the big day! Im very nervous, but excited at the same time.

I deeds got into Cornell. My heart is racing

You got in?

@Emsmom1 Yeah I was accepted. I was so excited I guess I forgot how to type haha

Congratulations! So happy for you

Thank you so much

@Jlmao200 This is the coolest thread. Congratulations!!! Always believe in yourself especially at Cornell!

@gearmom Thank you!!

@Jlmac200 Did your mom do the happy dance? I would have. Give her a hug hug and go out this weekend somewhere fun.

She screamed louder than me when she saw and started calling everybody we knew. And that is a good idea. I should go out this weekend. I’m just relieved, happy, and tired all at the same time.

Fantastic! Did you apply to Cornell as a particular major?

Yes Global and Public Health Science

Statistics could be a useful second major for you (or primary), then, I agree.

I’ve been trying to keep my acceptance on the low, but my friend comes into class screaming about my acceptance which causes the whole class to go insane and I was getting hugs and people were screaming. @-) but this girl who I used to be friends with had her head down the whole time. A little background, She hates me because I came back to my old school district and started to outshine her in all the classes we have together (all the competitive people left the district so it was really easy to stand out and be at the top of the class when I came back). I’ve noticed she’ll start to make snarky remarks to me and about me. Like when we got our quarter assessment grades back and I got the highest grade she was like “What? Her?!” Which doesn’t even make sense because I’ve always had the highest grade in that AP class since day 1. Nobody was surprised but her. So after everybody found out about my acceptance, people started to ask where she was applying to. She said she was going to community college so she wouldn’t waste thousands of dollars at some big Uni (which was obviously aimed at me)(she sounded completely psycho and upset). But my friend who announced my acceptance backed me up and stated that they cover a lot of the cost and give you a lot of aid if you can’t afford the tuition. She proceeded to say, “well maybe I should just apply to some random university like Harvard or something and get in there.” Some other girl in my class said," you probably wouldn’t get in." (Which is extremely rude but I appreciated it because the girl was being so rude to me). The girl just had her head down for the rest of the class. I’m glad my classmates had my back, but it sucks that people act like that. Even another girl who is applying to Cornell was genuinely happy for me. But that girl who wasn’t even applying was so rude…

Looks like you can now enjoy the rest of senior year without college admission stress (assuming that Cornell’s financial aid is as expected / needed).

Seems odd that the other student would react that way. Now that you are going to Cornell and not applying anywhere else, you will not be another applicant competing against her for admission to any non-Cornell college that she applies to, so that she should be glad that you were admitted ED to Cornell that she was not even applying to.

I just realized I did not update this thread. I was admitted to CalTech EA (I forgot to list this in my first post (I thought I would be rejected)), Cornell ED, Drexel, and Case Western Reserve. My superscore was a 1540 but I took the SAT again in November and actually scored a 1540 (not superscored). I rush shipped this score to Caltech and called and they said they recieved this score on time. I also took Math 1, Math 2, and Physics. I sent Math 1 and 2 to Cornell. And I sent math 2 and physics to Caltech. I recieved 800 on Math 2 and Physics and a 780 on Math 1. I have recently withdrawn all my other applications and I have sent emails to all the other schools besides Cornell (obviously) saying that I will not be attending the school. I just thought this information would be useful for other future applicants.

Correction: I sent Math 2 to Cornell I wasn’t able to send Math 1

Note: for any applicants applying ED to Cornell next year…this year several applicants including myself received a few emails about financial aid (one about FSA ID, another about a change made by my college financial aid counselor to my FAFSA) on the morning of decisions. Apparently everyone who received those emails was accepted from what was seen on the ED thread. So that may be a potential sign of admission.

Also not receiving this email does not mean rejection. People did not receive the emails and were still accepted.
