okay, no one hate me, but i did my first hw assignment for my stats class (due nov 4....but from what im reading, this is pretty much everyones goof off class, lol), and we're supposed to be familiarizing ourselves with this program for future stuff, blah blah.

long pretty boring story short, i did a side by side analysis of the effect of a or b on ultimate decision of last years SCEA class.

this is totally insignificant, so no one flip out, but its sort of interesting:

of the individuals in the sample that provided both essay topic and decision-
A : 19 accepted, 16 deferred*, 7 rejected

B: 27 accepted, 6 deferred*, and 7 rejected
- * these deferees did not provide a final decision; the ones that did were placed in accepted or rejected categories.

info source: the wiki

this has absolutely no proof or legitimacy, just an explanation for my stats assignment chart - but it seems like, for the purposes of my finishing my stats hw and starting, say everything else ive been putting off all long weekend for sunday night, B has an advantage

off to read all of lear, do all my other essays, and maybe my calc problem set...psh

dude there's way too many factors to include anything in those, especially since you dont know what was written. youd need the same people to write both A and B for there to be any significance. Then agai I got a 4 on the stats exam so what do I know.

im sure there are a number of lurking variables, but i took for granted that the distribution of stats/locations/extracurriculars was a pretty solid randomization for the sample...

People probably just submit really boring pictures. Like a picture of their grandma.

"This is my grandma. She means a lot to me. She has worked hard all her life and taught me about how important working hard is. This is why I want to go to Stanford. I want to work hard and be like my grandma."

IMO it's harder to have a cliched picture than a cliched quotation. Unless of course, you pull out a grumpy ancestor shot, then more power to you.

You could surmise that materialistic and less complex thinkers would be more inclined to submit a picture. Of course, most of the essays sent were probably phenomenal.

But, take a look at 11b and notice that anything less than a bit abstract would fail to provide any solid foundation for the essay. In my opinion, 11b is more introspective.
