Does alumni's child have a greater chance?

Both of my parents graduated from cornell.
And now they are working in Cornell as faculties.
At the same time, my brother went to cornell three years ago.
I heard from ppl that i might have a greater chance to get in than other applicants.
Is that true?

yeah esp if your parents are hotshot faculty members (really important/leaders in their fields/etc.) you have a great chance.

At princeton I think faculty kids get put into a seperate applicant pool.
I know a girl who got in with high 1200s 3.2GPA and no outstanding ECs to Princeton because of her dad (he's a very prominent professor, but still!)

So, let's see:
Double Legacy
Double Faculty Child
Sibling attended
Ithaca resident

IMO you have a very good chance provided you have reasonable academics.

well....i dont think they are hotshot faculty members.....
BTW, are my scores okay for engineering as a girl.......?
SAT I: R 630 (kinda low.......)
W 720
M 780
SAT II: PHY 800
CHM 790
IC 720 (that sucks....)
IIC 780
French 700
APs: AP PHY 5
AP CHM 4
AP STAS 4
AP US 4
( i dont have that many APs.......)

GPA unweighted: something above 3.8 (didnt know the specific at this point, i just calculated it by myself... lol)
Rank: 1 (even they didnt have it calculated, but i am pretty sure for this.....)

Too lazy to type my ECs.....i will do it tomorow......

A girl and a double legacy? shoo-in

you're in as long as you didn't kill anybody. 780s are great.

seriously, don't worry...with those kind of connections...yeah. but don't feel guilty either, haha.

You get a free Cornell education too. Not a bad deal...

Do you live in NYC or Ithaca? If Ithaca, doesn't the local high school send tons of people to Cornell per year anyway? And since you're valedictorian, you're already a shoo-in. BTW, I applied as a double legacy as well with 800M/750V/790W/790Physics/800MathII and 4.6/3.9 and 4/530ish....if that gives you any more reassurance (not like you really need any...)

if her parent's teach there I'd assume she lives in ithaca or at least tomkins cty.

Well...could be the medical center in NYC...or even in Qatar or some other random other Cornell facility...

i live in ithaca....

You can find Ithaca High School's college profile on the following link. You look like you're in good shape judging from the Class of 2004. Keep looking for them to post the Class of 2005.

i knew that...

do they have one of those for all states/schools?

i think they do....
Anyways, the reason why im worrying about my chances is b/c my friend's rejection. She has a way better grades than mine......
here are some brief information about her:
Female, asian (international student who was here for four years.)
GPA:4.11
Rank 1
SAT I: 1480
SATII: PHY 800
IIC 800
IC 750
CHM 780
BIO 800
WRT 620
AP: AP Lan,AP Bio, AP Calc, AP Phy, AP CHM, AP computer,AP US, AP Stas
all 5s.........

I'm not familiar w/ her ECs, but i knew she won lots of awards..........

But she got rejected by applying to Art & Sci for regular dec........

Ps: her mother worked and graduated from cornell+she is a local high school student.......( i think those really helps.....)

why would she get rejected????????

Weird..........

I'd be shocked if you didn't get in.

she applied regular decision? why would she apply regular decision if she wanted to go to cornell? thats my guess as to why she was rejected. I would put money on your acceptance.

Your stats and profile (girl) make you competitive in engineering even without rediculously awesome connections.
