Does an invitation to a season kickoff event mean anything?

This post is my first in this forum, but I have been a long time lurker. I wanted to say in advance how useful the information I've read on here has been as I've helped my DD start her recruiting process.

She is a junior, and has contacted a long list of D1, D2, D3 and NAIA schools. She's received the most responses from D3 schools (emails, phone calls, hand written notes), but also has some light D2 and D1 interest (requests for game film). One of the D1 schools she contacted back in June never responded with anything until today, when they emailed an invitation to attend a season kickoff event on campus. The email came from the assistant coach, but was not personalized to DD, so I assume they probably sent it out to everyone who has ever filled out a questionnaire for their program. Am I right to assume this invitation is on par with receiving a camp invite--that is, it doesn't really mean anything? Or is there more to it?

The event flyer says, "meet the teams, basketball showcase, contest, half-court shot contest, step-team performance and more" and the email says that DD and her family are invited to attend, and that she should contact the coach if she is planning on coming or has any questions. The event is not promoted on the team's website other than being listed on their schedule (maybe they are in the process of updating the website with the info today?) At any rate, any insight is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

If it is not personalized it is likely something that was sent to those in their recruiting database. Nonetheless, if the school is of high interest to your daughter, and the trip is manageable, it could be quite worthwhile to go for the possibility of making a more personal connection with the coaching staff. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. That’s kind of what I’d figured on the situation.
