Does anyone have any experience with or knowledge of the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. I am considering doing a one year taught masters degree (not a research degree) in psychology and they seem to have some interesting programs. Here are my concerns: 1) how hard is it to get accepted? 2) what is their level of academic difficulty? 3) what is the campus culture/student life like? 4) how do the costs of living compare with the US? 4) is this a practical choice for grad study? Any other info that would shed light on U of Edinburgh would be appreciated. Thanks

I too am considering U of Edinburgh. Has anyone ever applied (accepted or rejected)? I agree with sargasso - there were some very interesting courses, and the university is rather highly ranked.

Well, I went to Strathclyde University (In Glasgow, Scotland) back in 1997 (Mech. Eng) and I can tell you that U of E is probably the best located University in Scotland. Edinburgh is also by far the nicest/friendliest city in Scotland. In as far as academics, I would put it on par with U of St. Andrew’s overall, but as you probably well know, it largely depends on what you want to study.

Most UK schools require a min 3.0 degree GPA/or Major GPA (In the UK we do not have a general education component so the only thing they really care about is the classes you took in your major). They also need two academic referees (Similar to a LOR in the US)
These referees will submit an assessment of your abilities to the school in question.

Regarding cost of living, it is on par with a big city in the US. The nice thing about UK/Scotland is that the masters program is usually only one year, instead of the two you more commonly see in the US. It is a very condensed program, so you will most likely be extremely busy and have little time to actually socialize.
